I just nipped out to take this photo of 'Rosemoor'.. as it's not often I get decent blooms on this rose, which I've had for 4 years and will be removed end of this season... I've never been in love with it.. the blooms are often muddled, and little scent..

Hypericum moserianum just starting to flower.. this is a free flowering Hypericum usually with flowers much larger than this...
    clematis 'Prince Charles'...

I agree re Rosemoor, Marlorena. In my garden it’s a sorry, scraggy looking plant with too few flowers.  I expect it does well for some people with other soil types.  Seeing your photos, thinking about The Ancient Mariner for my next garden though.

..yes Jemula... I've given it every chance.. it's 7 foot tall, produces lots of buds but it's never a mass of bloom... 'Lady Salisbury' is another...  I'm going back to Harkness roses, they produce some lovely ones, and I need to get more from them I think, including their latest 'Chawton Cottage'..

...now, let me see what I have for today... not much... but at least the weather is warming up...

'Lady Mary Fitzwilliam'... a Hybrid Tea [Bennett, before 1880 UK].. and back in the day used as a stud rose... mostly as a pollen parent, which means it will be found in the lineage of almost every modern rose we have in our gardens... she has over 17,000 descendants..a prolific breeder...  including many of the Austins like Gertrude Jekyll...

    'Lolabelle'...
Hypericum moserianum... showing those gorgeous red stamens.. this is a top notch plant..
Geranium 'Rozanne' in a pot... [best place for it in my opinion]..

...I'm so excited... I've just watched the 5 days of Royal Ascot on the t.v. I had a bet in every race, 30 races.. and finally got a winner... Cleonte in the Queen Alexandra.. the very last race.. well they do call it ''the getting out stakes''.. so I sort of got out.. and broke even on the week..   I've been betting on horses since 1961 [very young]... I don't do The Grand National.. only summer racing..

..I  might get another 2 roses for that...

'Midnight Blue'... the name itself is tantalising.. very tempting when you look at a beautiful new bloom... this rose has a good reputation.. yet I have discovered something else which to me, is definitely not pleasing to the eye...  wonderfully scented of spicy cloves...…. yet...

...the very next day it turns this colour....   HORRIBLE !...

...here's a fresh one, and an old one side by side...   I'm sorry to say I don't think I can keep this rose... blooms that fade attractively are quite important I think.. I'm so disappointed... the breeder is renowned for producing great roses... but this?...

..let's have something much nicer.. 'Scarborough Fair'...

'Monsieur de Morand'.. a Bourbon, great scent, unfortunately not available in UK..

'Blythe Spirit'.. an Austin I put in the same class as 'Scarborough Fair'.. wonderfully simple semi double blooms, masses of buds, constantly repeating... withstands drought... and kept going all through last summers heat and drought...  a little known Austin but worthy of placement in any shrub border..
