Going back to the actual episode for a second - the driveway they partially dig up and put topsoil on.  Did I miss an explanation?  We’re all the plants  shallow rooted or something?

Didnt look like enough was done for plants to thrive in the coming years.

I for one like Adam Frost, I think he comes across with a lot of integrity and just a very nice chap. He seems very practical.

I was a bit confused by the driveway planting as well @Tin pot. I know when Adam dug down where the gravel had been, he said the soil was clay but there was also silt ? He added compost to the existing flower beds under the window and along the side, but the other plants that went directly into the gravel area just seemed to go into holes into the clay/silt. Presumably it's well drained, but l did wonder how easy it would be for the roots to find their way into any soil, such as there was. It was a big improvement but as you say, l wondered how they would manage.
  • I loved this episode. I would be willing to pay a bit more if it meant less plastic.

I suspect a lot more prep work was done than was shown.  The editorial and production staff probably thing that all that stuff is boring and we'd much rather spend more time with shots of dogs, or Monty walking down paths with bean sticks over his shoulder.

Dunno Hosta.  He has a newish dog and his daughters have horses - but at least Adam bangs on about using their waste produce in his garden.  Not keen on his accent but I think he's great and has a solid horticultural background and design pedigree.

As for palm oil - Dove is right.  Home cooks don't use it, industrial food processing dose.  It also goes into bio fuels, soaps, detergents...........   I saw a fleeting bit of Greg Wallace's programme on supermarkets and their secretes which was explaining about Iceland's drive to eliminate palm oil form their food by 2020 and the problems of replacing it in, for example, meat pie - cost, flavour, texture.  Butter, tho local, is about 10 times more expensive.   Will the consumer pay for that or go to Tesco/LIDL etc??
I would definitely be prepared to pay more for healthier food without palm oil - as it is good for me and for the environment. Wouldn’t pay more to replace plastic pots though.

Well spotted Tinpot. That section was very rushed and not at all realistic to have all that area done in a day. Considering what was under that gravel. It was like watching one of those make-over programmes where mature specimens are quickly buried into the soil. Apart from pointing out a few shrubs very quickly (and I don't think they are shallow rooted plants) we just suddenly saw a view of a border with dotted plants, but no explanation what they really were.

Yes I thought the same- a longer piece cut down as a filler and it didn’t work.

Touché, Yviestivie, well said! I know he's blocked me, but quite frankly I'm sick and tired of his moaning.
Well that made me laugh out loud.
The "handy ignore feature" hasn't worked so I see sue has crept out from under her stone to do nothing more than have a moan.
Why don't YOU use the handy ignore feature sue, oh yes, it'd stop you having something else to moan about.
Right , let's see if it works this time

@Catherine164, I was thinking along the lines of @raisingirl, who suggested it might be a ‘soft start’ for Adam, if he does take over from Monty eventually. M does seem to be doing an increasing number of other gardening programmes so I’m sure we won’t be losing him from our screens, but it does feel like he is gently bowing out of GW. We shall see...

I too thought Adam’s front garden makeover was rushed and I’m sure this was not a true reflection of him or what happened - the editing team think viewers have the attention span of a gnat.
