Only go out with the clothes you are standing up in - preferably with no pockets in which you may secrete your debit/credit card.  You can take a couple of pound coins ( parking, etc ) but no more.
It's a tough regime but works for a while :D
Bit like the theory "Don't go food shopping on an empty stomach"!

Ok it's happened again, I only went to eat cake and have a cuppa with by best friend and suddenly I had loads of plants in my basket.  I think I might have to get one of those bands that alcoholics tweak on their wrist everytime they get tempted to have a drink.
This time I bought an Alstromeria, 3 viola Mrs Lancaster, Geranium Tumbling Heart, Osteospermum Stardust and a tray of annual violas.

     because it was on clearance
😁 But you did it a favour. Now it can happily grow in the ground, sooner rather than later!

When l visit Malvern or Gardeners' World Live etc., l walk into the Floral Marquee and something happens. I must be taken over by aliens or something.
I did go to GWL a couple of years ago, l had a list of 4 plants l wanted. I had done my research,  l knew the location of the nursery stands, l was not going to be distracted.
I was literally on my way to the exit having achieved my objective, then l took a wrong turn and ended up at the Hardy's Cottage Garden Plants stand.......
My OH's face when l appeared at our meeting place said it all. 😁

I only went into Morrisons for coffee and biscuits, but came out with another blue campanula, two pink dianthus and a white aster that I know full well shouldn't be flowering, but they looked nice together.

  • I have distinct phases in which I get obsessed with different things, bog plants one year, ornamental grasses the next, then alpines etc etc..and i don't stop buying until I have something close to a national collection in each category....

Well, I'm feeling rather smug. Went to Homebase last Monday, looked at the plants, thought no, I don't need any of those, only bought a hose reel on the way out. I think I was a bit disappointed really.

Joining the club, popped to the garden centre for some edging shears, came out with three new roses.

Doesn’t help that the garden centre down the road is huuuge and the plants are lovely (although a bit overpriced).

Look out for plant sales at allotments or community gardens.  I went to one last bank holiday, trays £2.50, small pots £1, bigger pots £3.

Filled my raise beds beds for less than £30, lovely plants too, grown with love!
