I wonder what the viewing figures are like compared to the days on BBC 2?
High summer and it's not back until July, seems daft to me when you consider that the gardening season in Scotland is somewhat shorter.

Shock horror here!   Why oh why can they not find half an hour a week for gardening TV in Scotland?   They surely don't think GW is going to answer, given the differences in climate, day length, light levels, ................

I watched Beechgrove tonight, and posted on the wrong thread. They won't be back (if ever) until the end of July.

Moving them on to the BBC Scotland channel was the end of the road, and the powers that be wanted to end the Beechgrove obviously. Well, it seems like they have succeeded  and it is a shame.

I wonder if Jim knew this was going to happen and decided he may as well quit . I know he was finding it difficult, but there was something very odd about that first programme. It started off as normal, then it was announced he was leaving, a short film clip which seemed to just "fizzle out",he wasn't mentioned again and didn't appear at the end with the others.

It's a very strange move. Just spotted that this was being talked about on Twitter 6 days ago, but not the reasons for it. And the official Beechgrove tweets don't acknowledge it at all.

Not very reassuring is it? Beechgrove was never a key part of BBC Scotland for a start. Investing in content on social media is not what I pay my licence fee for. I pay it for TV programmes! Why start a run at the end of July when the gardening season is all but over? Grrr

Not reassuring at all. Maybe making a noise at Points of View would be a good idea - I suspect the idea of gardeners up in arms would appeal to their magazine-y minds.

  • It's such a shame they clearly they can't see what a value and cross country appeal it has as a programme. A great example of public service broadcasting. Good idea @LG_ we should all write in.

I know a lot of people use social media (of all age groups),  and l suppose it could be argued that if younger people want to be encouraged to garden, they are more likely to access advice in that way.
Watching the telly is no longer what it was, and l suspect this is also a way of cutting costs. The garden still needs to be maintained whether filming goes on or not, and l don't know if the quality of "films" used on social media could also be used on TV.
Is the Beechgrove garden owned by the BBC ? If so, l presume they pay the wages of the gardening team who work "behind the scenes" ?
