    Thanks Obelixx!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Well, that will change some dynamics but not, I hope, the quality.  I wish him well.  He's been brilliant at communicating the fun of gardening along with the how and when.

    Longest-serving garden presenter bows out

Jim McColl has been presenting BBC Scotland's The Beechgrove Garden since 1978.

  • Jim is retiring. I'm genuinely saddened.

Jim is a lovely bloke, he was a friend of my FIL, so I met him on a few occasions and he was always happy to chat. He didn't like the fact that I emphasised my English, rather than my Scottish heritage :)

Sad news for us viewers, but what a great broadcaster he has been.  Wish him all the very best.

I did wonder how long it would be as he's in his 80's now and looks to have been getting a bit wobbly on his legs the last couple of seasons. I hope that he enjoys his retirement and comes back every now and again for a star appearance or even the odd roadshow where his humour is always evident. Good auld Jim lang may yer lum reek!

I am sad to see him go, but understand his reasons. I hope he has a long and happy retirement.
