@Nollie Golden Beauty is good re blackspot. I don't get much of it but GB tends to stay clear. Re For Your Eye Only, seems pretty healthy and hasn't minded the recent weather.
May I just check with you lovely people that iceberg is still good in hot and dry periods? I may need to replace the current unknown white rose bushes I have as they have performed abysmally since last year's drought. They stopped blooming in the dry period , then they seemed to bounce back but this year I saw no blooms open until late June which is far too late for my liking. They used to start in May and really lighten up the garden.
Thats really helpful, thanks @Yviestevie, always good to hear from someone who actually grows what you want to buy!
@TinyGardenGIrl - I planted a new bare root climbing Iceberg this year and whilst it was later to bloom than some others (maybe just being new, it was planted very late) but once it got going... total bloom machine! It gets a 12L can of water 2 times a week, like all my roses, but I gave them all extra last week because of the approaching fierce heatwave, which it sailed through - I noticed yesterday it has actually put out new buds, which given it was 45degC when they must have been forming, was some feat!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I finally had some time to go through my photos from last week (I take a huge amount of photos to document everything in the garden, instead of taking notes).
Unknown red rose. I really like this one. Perfect red - not pink, not orange, not dark red, just plain basic red, and it does well for me. Unfortunately, it only has a light scent.
It has huge clusters of blooms and the blooms are much bigger this year than they were last year, I had to add some support. And it's only just starting.
Princess Alexandra of Kent also starting with huge blooms, much bigger than last year. Almost twice as big as my hand, I think they must be close to 15cm in diameter.
Joie de Vivre first (undamaged) bloom, not a typical one.
The bush itself is very compact and full of buds.
The roses newly planted this year (in March or April) are also slowly starting.
Scarborough Fair looks like it's going to be a bloom machine.
That Princess Alexandra of Kent bloom is seriously impressive, @edhelka! I’m glad your Ebb Tide has turned into the colour you wanted. It is amazing how temperature affects colour bloom.
Lady Emma Hamilton yesterday, she has worn so many different coloured outfits this year:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
