I haven't seen Imogen before either. New to me. Thanks for that.

I take it’s good for ignoring horrid smells as much 😀.
Doesn’t work like that, sadly! I can sure smell pungent (the pig manure the local farmers spread is foul). On the plus side, I can detect aromatics pretty well, so things like rosemary, lavender, agastache are fine, plus jasmine and some very heavily perfumed shrubs, but rose notes are just lost on me.
Interesting! I seem to have the same effect with wine! What notes? On the plus side That made me a cheap date 😀!

    Well I don’t know since I can’t smell em :D

I get whatever Gertrude smells of (sweet, old rose, I think). I get a very faint whiff of citrus notes from Golden Celebration (deep nose-diving required). Can’t smell Munstead Wood, Harlow Carr and many other DA’s that are meant to have a strong scent. My OH has a very acute sense of smell and is always remarking on the difference between all our roses, but gets purple and orange confused all the time. Fascinating.

  • Yes imogen is fairly new to me as well as I only bought it a few weeks ago at Harrogate flower show but I’m impressed with the colour already!!

Do show us some more pics of the development of your ‘double Darcy’, Daniel, interested to see how it turns out!

I will be visiting David austin in the next few weeks and no doubt come with a new rose. I like look of Gabriel Oak!! I will also upload some pics as the garden at DA is quite something and full of inspiration
  • @Nollie yes I will do, I’m very keen to see how it turns out too although not sure new bud will open before the old one dies off!! But u never know!

    Gertrude Jekyll

    Winchester Cathedral

The top one was supposed to be 'Penelope' a Pemberton shrub rose - but I cropped it too much! It's a beautiful pale apricot pink. I'll photo it again tomorrow.

In the spirit of showing the ugly as well as the beautiful, may I present to you for your delectation a superb specimen, unparalleled in the rose world:

The balling and discolouration after rain, the insect damage, the quirky stripes, the ungainly hybrid tea form, it’s popularity with a variety of multi-legged munchers... deserves a spot at Chelsea, wouldn’t you agree?
