Thank you @Marlorena and @jemula. The area in question will have dappled shade. I was originally look at tuscany superb as I've seen it and was impressed by its colour but am I right in thinking that it's not a repeat like Souvenir du Docteur Jamain. I'm open to any ideas. But like the idea of a burgundy /crimson old Rose set amongst smaller pink English roses

@Jason-3 I don't have it, but I've been recommended 'Souvenir de Claudius Denoyel' often enough..  might be too red, but see what you think Jason... I do know it's rather fragrant and vigorous..

You might also like 'Gloire de Ducher'. [hybrid perpetual].. I have this one... some of the blooms are huge.. it's a lanky shrub or short climber..will need pegging or training to increase lateral breaks..  and one has to tolerate some disease pressure mid season..

..1st year as a young plant..  it's fragrant on a good day..

@Marlorena    Wow! 'Gloire de Ducher' is a beauty! I'd love to see pictures of you whole garden or at least portions of it.

@Marlorena stunning purple/crimson colours. How vigorous is the plant in its first season? as the bed is fairly well established

@Jason-3 ..if you keep it well watered it's quite vigorous in the first year, but don't expect a monster.. these old roses need time to develop... we had drought last summer so didn't grow much.. I expect it to be at least 5 foot tall by next month..but it's capable of much bigger proportions.. it really needs spreading out, like fan shape or tied to trellis or stakes...

..thanks.. I'm glad you like my rose... I was going to show some pics on my other thread, but I'll put a few here from previous years ...but I don't want anyone to think I'm here just showing off... obviously I grow roses.. full stop.. so there's plenty of them and they all mix up together...  it gets pretty crowded... but I hope you like these, and thanks for asking about my garden too..

..that'll do for now... hope you like...

@Marlorena I think you don't have to worry about posting too much in this thread, at least from my point of view, I know I won't get bored by this rose porn any time soon.

It looks like you have the plants quite densely packed. Do you think you could do some drawings/schemes for your other thread, a small piece of your garden only or an example with plants and distances between them?

@edhelka .. thanks so much... and all done without sprays..
..I'm always happy if someone likes them..

..and sure I'll look into that tomorrow.. I have a small border I can show how I've got that arranged.... although I'm no good with drawings or fancy design work... I just look at something and sort of know what I want to do with it.. I expect you do too...

  • Oh my...that is absolutely breathtaking Marlorena.
May i ask what kind of spacing you use between rose plants?
Please don't hold back on pictures, such a joy they are.
