Hello folks! Back from my cleaning/mending/painting bonanza in Scotland, to a blossom-filled garden and wall-to-wall sun...
As usual, I did a lot of jobs not on the "to do" list (eg mending fences and a gate, rebuilding the garden wall (thanks, sheep!), hacking down brambles, pruning the rambling rose), and didn't do some that were (eg painting skirting boards). But all is ship-shape for the visitors, apart from the toaster which broke as I made my breakfast on the final morning. You can't win them all... For anyone listening to Radio 4's Book of the Week, "The Nature of Spring" by Jim Crumley, the island (and indeed, the little settlement where our cottage is) was featured on today's episode. It's available on i-player - called "An island pilgrimage".
This blackthorn hasn't changed appreciably in the 32 years we've been visiting the island. The flowers compete with the lichen at this time of year...
It's quiet around here... are we all whispering so as not to disturb @Dovefromabove ? Hope you feel better soon! Best wishes to you too, @punkdoc , for a steady improvement. Glad you're feeling a bit perkier, @Pat E - hope hubby gets through these chemo sessions without too much trouble. Good to see you again, @islander ! Hope the weather has been kinder to you.
I've read all 245 (ish) posts from April. Great to follow all your news - super to see progress in your gardens, @LG_ and @WonkyWomble Many congrats to Bow! You must be so proud of your talented daughter, LG.
I can only potter at the moment, as I brought back another UTI from Scotland so am feeling rather weary. But it's just glorious out there...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Evening all. Just popping in. Hope you feeling better all poorly people. Dove - I don’t know what’s worse - D or V?! Both make you feel horrid and dehydrated.
My Grandmother used to say that too @Allotment Boy! In fact she would often drink cooled, boiled water with a squeeze of lemon instead of tea and I sometimes do that.
Hi folk ... just to let you know I’ve been up all night with D&V and feel rubbish so I’m on the sofa under a blanket and being looked after. See you when I feel more human ....
Sorry to know that, Dove!
I'm sure, we've all been there. My mother's treatment: keep warm, rest and have lots of water with the occasional addition of a tiny amount of sugar or salt.... You may prefer to buy your electrolyte supplement from the pharmacy!
I hope you're your good-old self by tomorrow morning. Sleep well.

Hope it's gone by the morning, Dove, or, better, it stops tonight so you can sleep.
I've been weeding, seed sowing, planting, again. So much to do at this time of year.

Our temp dropped to zero overnight, and I stupidly had my hair cut yesterday, so I’ve got cold ears.😒
Hard frost on the car this morning. I hope it's not damaged anything.
