Actually not alot as it's under a window. So I am allowing it to spread out rather than up as the label says it only reaches four foot. The base is a lattice of bamboo, and I will see what happens and how much help it will need.
My Madame Julia Correvon was looking quite sad and showing no sign of growth. It was a little one from Morrisons which I'd planted a couple of months ago. So two weeks ago I lifted it back out of the ground and repotted it in a 2/3L pot - and I can now see growth on it.
The others are mixed - three of them (Etoille Violette, The President and Comtesse De Bouchaud) are growing rapidly and have double in size since I got them a few weeks ago. I had to seperate two of them as they were misbehaving and wouldn't stop grabbing at each other!
The other three bought at the same time, are alive and showing some signs of growth but considerably slower (Carnaby, Justa and Sunset) - as in barely noticeable unless you compared a close-up before and after photo. Those three are less vigorous ones anyway though and Justa wasn't in a fantastic state when I got it, one of the two stems from the base was barely attached and came away when potting it.
My Jackmanii Superba is growing steadily still. Interestingly (didn't know before planting it) - it's one that climbs by twining with its leading stems - like a Wisteria - while all the others are attaching themselves with their leaf stalks.
Just wondering if anyone's growing arabella? I have one in a pot that I think needs moving 4 more sun but I'm wondering how to make it climb. Will it twine up a trellis or obelisk?
Bit worried about my C. Blue Ice or Ice Blue (I can never remember which). It's had large buds on for several weeks now, has been fed and watered and was the best it's ever been since I leaned it away from the fence and trained it onto a metal obelisk where it gets a bit more sun - but the buds just haven't flowered, unlike my other Class 2 large flowered clematises around the garden. I'm puzzled.
@Ffoxglove - Arabella is a non-twining, herbaceous clematis. It'll scramble up through a shrub, but if you want it to climb a support you'll need to tie it in as it grows.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
