  • Anticipation!
I grew this Montana Ruebens from a plug which we painstakingly wrapped around the trellis all last spring/summer/autumn and any day now it will be smothered with flowers.

Guernsey Cream how apt Guernsey :).
Blue Dancer has four long blue tepals, yours looks the right colour and a similar stage to ours. Blue lagoon is a macropetala which is a full double flower type.
Computer screens and cameras make colours look different but you will be able to tell from the single/double flowers.

Our montanas are in similar bud state, can't wait! We love the scent ( rubens like Guernseys and Elizabeth). Our were liners not plugs though.
Also a Koreana Amber about to flower.
A little Moonbeam and Eleanor are in flower.

Having looked at our Blue Dancer, I think yours looks a deeper purple rather than blue?

Aldi - £1.69 - large range of clematis and other climbers

We're away in the Lakes at the moment and the car is far too packed to fit any plants in, but I've tasked my MIL with collecting some from our local Aldi at home. Took photos of the ones I fancied!

The plants don't last long at our local Aldi, snapped up within a day sometimes! Should have seen how quickly the spring bulbs disappeared last September

They are on sale at our Aldi too.  Good looking plants, named varieties, a bargain.  I went for a Montana Warwickshire Rose it was £4.99 but it was a large plant so I didn't mind.

Markhams pink (left) and Macropetala (right) are doing well at the moment.  The season has started.

  • Your clematis are stunning Yvie - we would never see anything as good/mature as that for sale here - and if we did it would cost at least £ !4.00 if not more even though some are grown on a commercial basis here.  They look lovely. You must be thrilled with your purchases.

@Guernsey Donkey2  the two in the picture are not ones purchased from Aldi, they are named below the photo and have been in their planters for about 4 years now.   The one I purchased from Aldi was about 4ft tall, still a bargain though.

  • Thanks for the correction Yvie, even so - a 4ft clematis for that price would be amazing/unheard of here.  I think I should invite one of you lovely people to fill your car with plants - come over here and stock up my garden for me! At the moment we are looking for a few trees shrubs and snips for a boundary line - we have been quoted around £2,000!
  • Pinched a cutting when on holiday in Devon last year and she's romping away this year. No idea what she is vaguely remember the flower being lilac but now far to scared to move it!
So excited to see her in flower :)

@MrsBeeKeeper    ..that looks really good.. very clever to do that.. do show a photo again when it flowers, I'd love to see it..

I'm cheating here as this clematis died on me one year.. it may have caught spray drift from neighbouring agricultural land..
'Frances Rivis'... I've read that plants of 'Blue Dancer' are often sold under this name, being very similar..

I do miss this beautiful clematis..

I bought "Justa", "Carnaby", "Comtesse de Bouchaud" and "Arabella" from Aldi.

Inintended to have another look, now I'm back from our trip away, but they're all gone now at our Aldi. So I'm glad I asked someone to get them for me
