Home from a particularly wet and windy shift at work. We had, as part of our daily briefing this morning, a breakdown of our lottery tickets sales/ profit / how much has gone to " good causes" . I interjected with " I wonder how much they give to gambling awareness and addiction charities.
Home again and Wonky is on her way home as well. We had what might be called ‘an interesting day’ ... some useful shopping done 😊 but an attempt to have lunch in a Wyevale cafe resulted in a wait of well over an hour and our money back when Wonky politely explained that despite being ravenous we were not prepared to wait any longer. They were unable to refund my card ... the manager seemed not to know how to do it, so we said we would have a cash refund rather than wait for them to find someone who did.
Needless to say we didn’t buy any plants from Wvale and went to Notcutts for sacks of bird food. We resorted to grabbing a sandwich at W’rose on the way back here.
Despite the above we did have a lovely day and now she’s a bit more in control of her work hours we can do it again soon. 😊

Afternoon. That is poor from Wyevale, Dove and Wonky - in what world do they think that an hour is acceptable?! Fundamental problems there. The tree surgeon and team have finished my garden. A smart job and tidied up well too. Grass was a tad soggy for three men in work boots but it will soon recover. I used the time ‘waiting in’ to blast through some prep for upcoming promotion application... feel a bit more focused now. Still pros and cons to the job but determined to give it a go. Hope everyone doing ok. I shall compose a Cottage Pie whilst listening to Parliament news now.
I hope the news hasn't given you indigestion, AuntyRach.
It must be Spring. Mr and Mrs Mallard are back. This must be five years now. They appear in Spring , last year even knocking on the patio doors to get fed, then after about six weeks, they disappear again until next year.
Well as the Sun cracked through the clouds at 9am so I decided to go to Capel for my volunteer day. Managed to avoid the rain (mostly). The toll so far is 7 trees + one large Magnolia down and a Eucalyptus that will have to be taken down. Stupid students kept squeezing past the barriers instead of taking a few extra steps to go the other way round. Got bored telling them that the next gust could bring the Eucalyptus down on them which is why the zone was cordoned off, luckily it has held so far, as soon as the conditions allow them to climb the Arb guys have promised to sort it. It's right next to the Japanese garden where I mostly work. We spent day on the far side shoring up fences and clearing debris. Will have to check my Allotment tomorrow.
I notice that there is mild panic about stock-piling food, medicines and even loo roll* in the news in case we are ‘rejected’ at the end of March. Maybe grow-your-own will take off a bit more as there will be a frantic realisation that most of the shop Cherry Toms are from abroad.
*its ok... my Dad has a 12 pack ‘spare’ at all times (he will only have a certain brand though so they won’t sell out as the most ££).
Did you hear the chap on the radio the other day selling Brexit Boxes online ... it seemed to be mainly freeze-dried dishes and water filters ...he normally supplies mountaineers and polar expeditions etc. 🙄
I don't know about hoarding, but I always have enough food in the cupboard and freezer to feed us for a month. I do it so I don't have to go out if the weather turns bad. I always have a dozen or so loo rolls in. Well you don't want to be caught short in case of gastroenteritis, do you.?
I always have at least two 12 packs of loo rolls in the cupboard ... as soon as we start the one before last loo rolls go on the shopping list ... I have had Norovirus ... I appreciate the need to feel ‘well supplied’
Well folks ... after my lovely day out with @WonkyWomble and a delicious long cold G&T I can hardly keep my eyes open ... night night ... sleep tight ... sweet dreams all 🛌 🐑 🐑 🐑
