That extra hour's sunlight will fade the curtains quicker too.

I'd prefer BST all year. There's a fixed amount of daylight on any day of the year, and in summer it's so long that it makes no difference but at this time of year and in early spring it's more useful in the afternoon than in the morning. I don't have a problem with clocks going back but going forward (losing an hour) gives me a mild jetlag-ish feeling for a few days.

    From Wikipedia:

In September 2018, the European Commission proposed to end seasonal clock changes as of 2019.[173] Member states would have the option of observing either daylight saving time all year round or standard time all year round. In March 2019, the European Parliament approved the commission's proposal, while deferring implementation from 2019 until 2021.[174] In response to this proposition, the European Sleep Research Society stated "installing permanent Central European Time (CET, standard time or 'wintertime') is the best option for public health."[175] As of October 2020, the decision has not been confirmed by the Council of the European Union.[176] The council has asked the commission to produce a detailed assessment of its effects, but the Commission considers that the onus is on the Member States to find a common position in Council.[177] As a result, progress on the issue is effectively blocked.[178

Eastern countries would benefit from summer time more than western ones so it is strange that the French were in favour to keep it. Does it really save energy? Don't people drive around for longer and stay up consuming stuff in summer? Farmers are particularly opposed to it everywhere and they are quite vocal here about it.

@AnnaB, I went through a period, years ago now, when I used to suffer from restless legs. I found that if I took  a paracetamol, got up for half and hour and then went to bed, the legs settled down and I was able to get back to sleep.

Snap @Songbird-2. That is exactly what I do, but sometimes the half an hour or so isn't long enough and one doesn't know until one is back in bed again or at least that is what I find.  So it is get up again and repeat - minus the paracetamol of course. Still if 'it' follows its usual pattern then things will settle down again in the next few days and peace will reign for another month or so - hopefully.

My mother suffered from restless leg syndrome… she was recommended to drink a glass of proper tonic water in the evening and she swore it worked. Apparently it’s the quinine in the tonic 🤷‍♀️

Hubby was recommended that too @Dovefromabove for cramps.

Well the change in time did its trick again. By 9pm I was flagging, so early night at 10pm. Still took a couple of hours to get to sleep, but slept straight through and awake at 7.30.

Your GP could prescribe Quine tablets.

Thank you for your suggestions re quinine @Dovefromabove and @punkdoc, I didn't know that and will think about it for the future. But tonight the restless legs have popped off elsewhere and I am back to the usual 2 hours sleep 2 hours awake. So if all follows the usual pattern there will be no more twitching legs for a couple of months so I really shouldn't grumble.
I see that there is another nasty storm coming our way down here in the southern regions Wednesday night Thursday morning, plus more heavy rain before that for you poor folk up North. Oh I hate this time of year. Batten down the hatches and stay safe everyone.
Off now for my next 2 hour block of sleep.
