Morning Simone, over 40 years nursing, some years on cardiac units,ITU, in the UK, didn't bear out your stats. The "average" age for arrest is 70. I met plenty of ladies in their 50s,who were not slim, with underlying health issues, mainly their weight/diabetes,MIs, but never one arrest. In America,of course a different story The youngest arrest I attended was a 50 year old male, who had already suffered a serious vascular event.
@Simone_in_Wiltshire the average age for a woman to have a heart attack is around 70, 5 years younger for men. @Nanny Beach is correct. However, heart attacks in younger women, especially in the USA are becoming more common. More men still have heart attacks than women but it is becoming more common in women.
I was a nurse too. My OH and I were unlucky as he had a heart attack and died aged 53, but he smoked 60 a day.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
@Busy-Lizzie I got stat statistics from the doctors at Bristol. Might be they have different experience. Next day, I went for a walk around the intensive care unit and the were only young skinny ones. Also when I attended the heart sport group, just 1 woman ( a Geman who won 3 x our local marathon 😀) age 81 had stents but no arrest. Everybody else was in the 50’s especially the women.
The folk I met in ITU had had MIs,(heart attacks) not cardiac arrests. The cardiac arrests didn't make it to ITU. I don't know how you managed to wander around the unit, the patients were on ventilation even as staff, you had CCTV on the door and had to show ID to gain entry, there were never any mobile patients.young skinny ones I met, on cardiac units not ITU,who had vascular events mostly caused by drug/substance/alcohol abuse. In my last post,in almost 20 years,we had one 18 year old who assured us she didn't "do" any drugs, she was in the minority. My husbands father had an MI in his early 50s ,did not come out of the coma, and was a very heavy smoker.
Fascinating chat. I think there may be some confusion, between heart attacks [ myocardial infarction ] and cardiac arrest [ where the heart stops ], they are very different, although of course, the first can lead to the second.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
