Good luck with finding a plumber @rowlandscastle444, hopefully it's just a washer needed? That's the funny thing about houses I find, I look at our barn here with all it's little 'quirks', it is fine for us but if we were to sell it, should we tell/warn the new owners or leave them to a voyage of discovery themselves? Could be amusing!
So glad you are feeling better @purplerallim, nothing like a good meal of bangers, mash and beans to give one an uplift. Seriously though, look after yourself and take it easy for a few days.
Trying a new sleeping system here at the moment, seems to be sort of working. Staying up until now (around 2am) and then going to bed in the hope that when I wake again in two or so hours, I will/can just turn over and go back to sleep which will/may take me to a wake up time at round sevenish. Better than going to bed by midnight and then waking around two ish only to find that I then cant get back to sleep again until four to six in the morning. Will report on progress - if successful.
Can't sleep. OH and I spent Christmas with our own families, him in England, me in France. He came to join me yesterday and I cooked a nice dinner with a cheese course and we had wine and port with the cheese. I haven't had wine or eaten butter since Christmas as I've been trying to lose weight and I think my tummy found it too much. It's 3.25am. Don't feel sleepy and I'm too hot. Heating isn't on at night.
@AnnaB, in France if you don't tell your house buyers everything you could be in trouble for "hidden vices" but maybe quirks don't count! I hope you get to sleep.

Ah yes @Busy-Lizzie, England is very much the same as France regarding disclosure when selling but there are still one or two little quirks to be found in these old buildings, things you dont even think about unless you are trying to do something that instead of doing A before B you are better to do B before A for it to work more efficiently. By the way, you kindly commented on my little mare. Her name is Nokomis but has been known since her younger days as 'cotics which if you add 'nar' in front of it will give you an idea of her wild and strong minded temperament during her teenage years which led to the nic name! She will be 28 in a couple of months and we still have a couple of her children here in the herd plus several of her sisters/half sisters. We lost her mum at the end of last summer who was in her early 30's, purchased in 1993, and the foundation mare of the herd. We keep a lot of our animals for a lot of years! Glad your OH arrived back in France safely and I hope you managed to get back to sleep.
Thank you @AnnaB. I did eventually go back to sleep, just woken up, having coffee in bed.
Your little mare sounds a real little character. My Hannah had a lot of character, Lusitano, sadly died from cancer during lockdown aged 25. I always kept my horses until they died, except the last one, still alive with my daughter, now 25. My oldest, French Trotter, died at 31. Luckily land is cheap in France.

@Busy-Lizzie Have you ever had your blood sugars tested? Being hot at night after a meal heavy in fat/carbs is a sign of pre-diabetes , which I am, and I too have had episodes of overheating after a heavy meal. I saw 3.30am last night before finally going to sleep 🤷♀️ , so late up as a consequence, good job I have that option. No reason I can see, but I wonder if not being as active as usual had an effect. 🤔 Thanks @AnnaB I will be taking it easy, with probably a nap after last night's sleep, but I actually feel ok much better than others have faired when I spoke to them.
Glad to hear some of you have been sleeping a little better. I have had two decent nights sleep in a row, after getting the new mattress topper. First night was awful, hip really painful, but last night, I only briefly stirred once. Not a peep from the hip! Hope this continues. Only downside is that I have to take my thyroid tablet on an empty stomach and 30-60 minutes before food. I’ve been used to taking it when I wake up around 3 or 4am, but the last two mornings, the tablet has still been sitting there when I woke up properly. Have to devise a new routine so I don’t have to delay breakfast!
I have to take a tablet 20 minutes before food too @Ergates , three times a day, it can really be a pain waiting a meal so I can eat. Especially if like today and I'm late up. Plus I have another that should be taken with food, but not within an hour of other meds, or for four hours after taking it . As this one is twice a day its rather difficult. 😵💫
When I read about the difficulties some of you have, it makes me realise I'm actually not as badly off as I think I am I would struggle with some of the issues you have. Thank you for helping me to put things into perspective.
We all have things that make life hard for us, no one has the same problems or can handle them the same way, so no one should think their own struggles are unimportant or not hard for them. Sometimes just talking about them eases them, if only for a short time, and it's nice to know that sometimes someone reading about it can feel less alone.

I hope your leak is dealt with quickly @rowlandscastle444.
