What are the leaves like, palmate, pinnate etc?

I would say more palmate, extremely small, non glossy and deciduous.  Thanks Flinster. This is almost impossible for people. I thought someone may recognise the shape of the branches & bark x

  • Those look a bit like shrubby potentilla leaves... and the cinnamon-coloured peeling bark fits, too... irritatingly, it's just been re-named Dasiphora fruticosa.  I'll go out and photograph mine and you can see if it's a match.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Ah.  I think I misunderstood something... just re-read your first couple of posts.  The "3 to 4 feet tall" comment referred to evergreen shrub suggestions, not to the height of the plant we're trying to identify... right?  If so, please scrub the above suggestion.   :)
