Ha great minds- hence my flower question! 😀

No it has no flowers and definitely not a Prunus. I wish I had a photo in foliage. I will take a closer photo of the bark tomorrow. Too dark at the moment. It's lovely but bark not shiny at all.

I meant I think Arbutus is evergreen (but I could be wrong there).  Sorry for the confusion   :/

I think we'll just have to wait until it grows some leaves.

Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Arbutus is everygreen- I only suggested it due to losing leaves..😀

Ha ha sorry I have made it difficult. Will post a photo in a few months with leaves. I have searched and I don't have one just of the bark xx

this is the bark on one of the branches. Ignore the foliage that is not on this tree.

Someone else mentioned an evergreen shrub/tree. That is very possible.

This shrub/tree could be a very poorly Chilean Myrtle. Luma Apiculata. Not entirely hardy in colder and exposed areas but it can survive in a sheltered spot. I can’t think of any other tree or shrub with small leaves and bark like that. Would be interesting to see what it is.

I had a look Borderline but the leaves are totally different. However could be a possibility if you think it's struggling. It has not produced flowers and definitely not evergreen. Thanks. On the list when I can get a photo with foliage x
