Edged the lawns and weeded borders. Put away bean poles and topped up the barrels with some John Innes I had left over. Spread some spent compost on the front garden where I keep the soil poor for a variety of plants. Green bin is absolutely stuffed. Good job it gets emptied on Tuesday.
Cut down a pink jasmine off the fence which I've decided has got to go as it's now trying to strangle a viburnum nearby. Weeded one of the smaller flower beds but then got rained off. Trying to summon up the enthusiasm to go out again but it's quite windy and for some odd reason I hate gardening when it's like that. Feel rather like a snooze instead!
Sorted the chest freezer, as coming to the end of harvest time for me, and realised I have made thirty portions for two of veg & tomato soup/ sauces. Have yet to finish making Raspberry jam as found two more bags of frozen ones in there.😆 Then went back to taking leaves off the tomatoes in the greenhouse, in the process found another 30 to pick! Three quarters done and out of the blue migraine hit, first in years, so spent the afternoon in bed.😵💫🙄
No gardening yesterday. With more than a smidgen of effort on my part, I managed to get my " dead fridge" onto a sack trolley, out of the house and to my car. My neighbour spotted me and kindly came out and lifted it into the car. When I reached the Recycling Centre on the other side of town I was told someone in a Hi-Viz jacket would be by the blue container to help me unload. No such luck. I had pulled the fridge, as far as I dare, out of the car when a lovely gentleman came and asked if I would like some help. "Oh yes, please". I drove home feeling ridiculously pleased with myself for doing a job that has been bugging me for months! Today I am going to repeat the exercise with a base unit from my aquarium which I have restarted. The unit is laminated chipboard and wet because it has been outside so I am expecting another tussle. Fingers crossed there might be some more kind men around to give me a hand.
After much heaving and hauling, I managed to put my unwanted unit in the car and take it to the tip. No neighbour at home to help but a kind young man lifted it into the skip for me. Now I have to tackle the four plastic chairs someone dumped in the lane to my property. The farmer threw them into the hedge rather than take them to the tip. No gardening, too wet.
You do sound like you're having a good clear out @Joyce Goldenlily! I need to do one as well but keep putting it off. We have to make an appointment to take things to our tip which is rather a pain. I've been busy clearing and digging up a patch ready for a new rambling rose I've ordered for delivery in November. Need lots more rain to loosen the soil though.
We have just reverted back to being able to take anything to the tip at any time. During Covid we did had a system based on your car registration number. If your number ended in an odd number you could only take things on Mondays and Wednesdays, If your number ended on an even number you could only take things on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It was closed the rest of the time. I saw very long queues outside as a result. I didn't bother to try so I assume that is why people started fly tipping in earnest Yesterday I took a music deck, dumped at the local village green and 4 stacking chairs which were dumped at the end of our lane. No gardening done.
Picked some tomatoes, yellow French beans and a cucumber. Further de-leafing. Removed the tarpaulin from over the greenhouse, thought it might blow away in the oncoming gale. Fingers crossed my late-ripening apples do not get blown off the tree, they are just beginning to turn colour. The one and only quince fruit is still hanging on to the tree, nowhere near ready for picking yet.
