Is this rose training technique anything like dog training, got in yesterday shocked to find it was 6.30, and we eat at 5.30, no house work done either don't tell anyone. Today, shopping 8am,then garden centre, treated ourselves to a wisteria for the new pergola.have sowed Leeks, and cobra climbing beans.
Over the last two days the hubby has edged and mowed the lawn, while I've dead headed and weeded. As a matter of interest I've counted how many heads I have taken off the daffodils. I've done this because of how many times people have mentioned digging up bulbs as they don't re-flower as well. My bulb area has been planted for four years, never touched, and last year I took off 100 heads. This year to present its 66, with 37 still in flower, so no reduction there. Just an observation.
I've been tidying the garden, moving compost sacks to a more convenient space, picking up odd bits of wood and stashing them in a corner, pending a trip to the tip and weeded my Shady bed. It's got lots of what creeping buttercup this year. Unforunately the pear tree has blossom buds just showing so is likely to get trashed by the expected cold weather next week. I also installed a CatWatch sonic battery thingie up by the veg beds on the recommendation of Allotment Boy (I think). Hope it works. OH says he can hear it!
Bulbs at home no problem Bulbs at allotment do suffer from mole hills/runs sometimes find a Daff or tulip pushed up O/H had a lemon & orange tree delivered for her birthday , however , so pot bound bought 2 new pots from g/c for them , repotted this afternoon Already had a gin & orange 🍊, can’t wait for the lemon 🍋 to be ready 🍸
@Lizzie27, yes it was me that suggested the cat watch. I hear the beeps when you first switch it on, and it clicks when I walk past it but I can't hear the actual sonic noise which is a crackling noise apparently. They say children & teens can hear it, most of us older folks can't hear it at all, but I have my mother's acute hearing. Hope it works for you. You need to move it around every few weeks, or they learn to dodge it.
Spent the day in my in-laws front garden yesterday. They poured a couple of bags of manure on their border a couple of years ago and have been plagued with wild garlic ever since. So, the brief was to remove as much of that as possible. Then I transplanted a few small shrubs and plants (abutilon, weigelia, sambucus nigra, azalea) that weren’t doing so well in the back garden, hoping they’ll like their new sunnier location better. Lastly planted some spare erysimum, cineraria, and bulbs I had brought with me.
Mother-in-law super happy with the result so far. We'll sow a few annuals and bi-annuals direct in the ground when the time comes.
