Busy weekend in the garden. Sawed off the tallest stems of a viburnum that's grown out of hand, pricked out lots of cosmos & salvia seedlings in the greenhouse, mulched some beds, sieved out some compost from the heap, planted a rhubarb crown and mowed the lawns for the first time this year (relieved to find the battery mower still works!).
Best of all, I'd left some patches of nettles to grow unmolested in a quiet corner of the garden and I saw yesterday they already have their first caterpillars on them!
After the weekend's industriousness, I have kept on potting up seedlings (ricinus, sunflowers), moved indoors seed trays that had been in a cold frame all winter hopefully to get them kick started (and because I needed the space in the cold frame). Spruced up my indoor plants. Took young dahlias for a spin in dappled shade. Generally marvelled at everything that is stirring in the garden. Come on Spring!
Flower house was standing last night... no winds.. Go out to put the washing up this morning and it's "fallen" (You've have to give it a shove) over. Just been out to repot what I can but I know I've lost my sweet peas at least. It's not been my year with gardening so far it has to be said

I have left patches of nettles in gardens & on my Allotments. I have been stung by them when I have forgotten they were there, had to dig them to stop them spreading too far. I have never EVER seen caterpillars on any of them.
Had a day at Benninbourgh hall but evening I managed to get some grasses and primulas planted and divided a huge ligularia and a couple of sedums. Sat with a cider and admired the daffs
Got quite a bit done today. Mowed and edged lawns. Emptied quite a few pots and moved some full ones into place. Planted foxgloves and heucheras. Clipped box cones and balls. Removed a carex and pondered about how to trellis a rambling rose. Exhausted but satisfied.
Just in from the garden. Spent yesterday and today clearing an area by the front gate of star of bethlehem. Tons of little tiny weeny bulbs. I won't have got them all but at least next year I won't have a forest of weedy skinny leaves coming up. Clematis planted to go up a tree in that area and a ceanothus planted in front. Now for a nice hot shower!
