Im just considering fetching in a bag of compost to lay on the floor (underfloor heating), might thaw out and warm up a bit quicker! Might risk sowing some shallots and leeks, which I reckon will be fine. I already feel behind and its only mid February lol!
  • It has just started to thaw here and we even had some sun, so I went out in the morning to grapple with rose and clematis pruning. My Hellebores are all out!

    Right an actual gardening day in my book;

Emptied the plastic storage unit in the front

Took it apart - this took ages

    Moved to rear and reassembled

Repaired the door on it that’s been broken for two years

Put two bike in it from the garage

    Put away skis and boots

Swept up the drive and tidied away bits

Moved unplanted snowdrops and muscari from garage to tool shed

    Re-covered the BBQ

Moved tree planter back to front bay

Sawed up branches Ive been seasoning for two years for the fireplace

Moved plastic recycling from kerbside to rear garden - council couldn’t collect during the big freeze nor for another week

Repaired front bin shed #1 and added four more screws for security

Replaced lock on wife’s kitchen toolshed

    Had G&T

Now all I need to do is sign the Valentines card 🌹and go for a nap 👍

I dashed out in the rain as I saw several pots of bulbs in the greenhouse looking as though they needed watering so stood them out on the table. It's warmer and wetter here today, thank goodness. Must remember to put them back in before it gets dark.

  • I have been out and fed the birds. They have been very hungry since Friday. Nearly all fat balls have gone and one of the seed dispensers had been emptied.

I had a wander down the the compost heap and added some kitchen scraps.

I have had an general wander around and admired the shoots coming through, snow drops and crocuses. I do enjoy having a wander round and seeing the changes that have happened since the last wander.  Further to my Buddleia post, I have been and had a look at it and i think i have a strategy for its spring prune.

The Hellebores are beautiful @Cambridgerose12 ....all the flower stems on mine are flat to the ground frozen solid still, but I expect they will cheer up in a day or so when it warms up....bit like me really!    ;)
  • Same here @Flinster, all Helibores are drooping,  but I'm sure they will recover.
Went to the Allotment & dug up  some parsnips,  nearly needed the pick axe, but managed with the strong fork eventually, top 4 inches of soil was frozen.

I love parsnips! Haven’t got room to grow them sadly. In a couple of years when the kids need less grass I will extend the veg plot... (insert evil laugh..)   :p

Compost turned, bare-root raspberries planted as well as a dozen pots of snowdrops that I planted as dry bulbs last autumn, lots of cutting back of the bone-hardy stuff that won't suffer from another frosty spell.  Tea break now, then another couple of hours cutting back and general pottering. I'll pay for it with sore muscles and achy joints, but it's too nice a day not to make the most of it. I'll be sat at the computer working tomorrow.
