  • I popped out to the compost to put some browns in (shredded card) and put some more fat balls out for the birds. They are going through quite a lot of food at the moment, not surprised as it is very cold. It was very icy out (I slipped and slid all over the place) and everything was covered in a frost. Now the temperature has increased slightly and it has gone a very yellow colour outside

I did yesterday, OMG nearly killed me!! Arthritic hands, wrists, they were already cold, I went down to my bottom greenhouse, did some checking, watering, tidying, I have another garden mag weekly, said not to leave dahlia tubers, put them in damp compost stop them drying and withering.  I only dug up a few the Alf Ramsey, because that is gorgeous.  We never had frosts blackening them, but a LOT of rain, I had my coat on, gardening gloves, it was 1c outside, no sun so not a lot warmer in the greenhouse.

@Nanny Beach , I grow lots of Dalias at allotment , I cut mine down and cover with a mulch / used compost for the winter ❄️, much easier

@Nanny Beach  I have arthritis in my wrists too as well as middle finger and thumbs.  I have just been prescribed some supporting gloves by my rheumatologist.  Had X-rays yesterday as she thought it might be the carpal tunnel - but no - just arthritis.  Now with my achilles tendons (I have to tape them from time to time, do exercises and put up with rolling at the physio) and bad back - wear a supporting belt when digging - I'm completely strapped for 2021!!!
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

  • @Wilderbeast I have extra sympathy for your injuries.  Yesterday when I took a glove off I realised I had ripped off part of a fingernail.  I felt nothing until I got home and ran it under a tap to wash the blood off.  Blimey it did sting!  Pathetic compared to what happened to you but it shows how easy it is to injure yourself, without realizing it.

@Allotment Boy I'm sure you weren't doing anything stupid as I was so your panic wouldn't block the pain. My panic was not my hand or even the fact my grass wasn't going to get cut, no it was Mrs Wilderbeast who I knew full well would make me pay not immediately but in the future 😭😭😭. Indeed she has been talking new kitchens today ouch ouch ouch
  • No.

    It's been "£$%^&@ cold.

     :)
