Replenished most of my big pots with fresh JI #3. Hurt my back lifting the bay out of its pot by myself (lesson learned!).

Dragged all the pots out for an inspection and swept up dead leaves; bits of clippings from deadheading etc.

Trimmed my lavender too early a few weeks back so trimmed the new new shoots.

Put new (bigger) screws into my hanging basket brackets as some had started to loosen.

Pulled the ivy back in and guided it onto the trellis (it will NOT escape the yard!).

Gave everything a feed (probably the last one of this summer).

It's getting down to 6/7 degrees on a night now so it smells like Autumn and definitely feels like it.

Will cut down a few of my deciduous pots in about a month's time.

Apart from that I'll probably get a few winter pansies soon and that will be it for this year.

Another painting session done. Of 6 fence panels and 12 concrete slabs underneath them, I'm over halfway. Can't access most of the rest properly until I decide the peas are done and lift some heavy stuff out of the way, Back aching already so that can wait!

  • Picked 9lb of plums, gave a bag to the neighbour in a swap for cooking apples, and put about 4lb of prepped plums in the freezer.
    Bit more weeding/dead heading.
Pinned down a few more strawberry runners.

Pruned a long privet hedge for hopefully the last time this year. Would quite like to get rid of it as it's getting old and patchy and have a fence instead. Finding constant maintenance too much like hard work now we're getting older.

Did a bit of paving.. well kerb stones around the new bog garden - aching now!
Had a look at the turnip crop - wish I hadn't. About a third have been munched by slugs! So out came the blue pellets.. reluctantly but I'm not wasting time & effort merely to feed those slimey bast**ds!
I've potted on some Turnip seedlings just in case - maybe a bit late but I'll give it a go.
Pulled the annual Rudbeckia - twas looking a bit sad.

  • Tried to get a very unruly pyracantha under control. Wow those thorns are sharp. 😐

Let the lawn recover for a few weeks with the rain, and gave it a first cut at maximum height yesterday.  It looks so much better now, but some way to go.

Got rained off this afternoon, which is a shame because the last few days have felt quite productive. Bit of work on the new fruit patch and dug up some King Edwards. Shifted a few paving stones and flags away from the fence so I can get more painting done (assuming it doesn't rain forever).

I had to rest as I over-did it yesterday with the hedge cutting but as it's rained since lunchtime, couldn't have done much anyway.
