  • Good morning all  :)

lovely to wake up to good news from Pdoc and Chicky  🎉
Sorry to hear poor Talla’s tribulations. We had a lovely dog Hodge when Wonky was small. She had an auto degenerative joint condition (she was only 2 years old) and had ops on  her stifle joints (done free by Cambs Vet college 💖 as it would help their research). Poor Hodge coped very well with the pins and plaster after the first few days so I hope Talla does too.

Sadly the condition spread to other joints and we decided not to put her through any more and said goodbye.  😢  It was a rare condition.

  • The plumber has been and photographed the wash basin and will get another to match. He’ll use the same taps. We should be back to normal week after next  :)

Glad you’re getting the sink sorted, Dove.we are so lucky we have a lovely ‘all round’ builder chappie nearby, he does everything, and a fraction of the price of the plumbers and electricians.
Another strong windy rainy day, going on till Sunday it seems.
Roland’s  off to the dentist soon,  more expense,  good job I’ve cured my toothache!

Up comforting distressed dog. Talla had her surgery and it all turned out to be a bigger deal than we expected.  It’s like reverting back to baby days, only cuddles help but she cried for 8 hours yesterday. Classical music, rescue remedy and darkened room finally got her off. However that’s her up again now. Dumb animals can be distressing

right, things seem a little calmer so will try some shut eye. It’s a huge wound and I have to remove the dressing, do you still use warm water.?Just looks like micropore

@Lily Pilly My dog broke his leg and had a pin inserted, was subsequently diagnosed with cancer and had his leg amputated so I had around 8 weeks in total of him having stitches, major wounds, dressings, etc. during which time he was sometimes fine and sometimes very unsettled and unhappy.
The micropore was very hard to get off without it hurting him. There are solvents that work better than warm water but the smell upset him more than the pain so I stuck with the warm water and just did it very slowly - it took about an hour to get the big dressing off his 'stump', stopping every time he started to get distressed.
I read up on very rudimentary TTouch techniques (http://www.canismajor.com/dog/ttouch.html) to help relax him while he was crated (the whole 8 weeks, basically). I sat in his box with him every evening while I watched the late news, rubbing his shoulders and neck to get him to relax. If I do it now, when he's all healed, he can't keep his eyes open but goes limp immediately. When he was in pain it took a little longer, but it did work.
Hope she feels better today. It is hard when they are upset but they do forget very quickly once the pain stops.

Hello everyone.   Big but careful hugs for Tall and LP.   We had a cat who had to have major hip and leg surgery after a car got her and I was up at all hours, changing dressings, helping her pee and poo, giving injections........   Hard at the time but she healed and was a happy pussycat again afterwards tho a bit wobbly.    Had another who lost his front leg to a car but that healed faster.

Have had an interesting morning at the catering arm of a lycée in La Roche.  They're planning an English meal for 40 customers to show how we use similar ingredients in different ways.   Two classes involved, one cooking and one serving.  4 main courses, 3 desserts.   We help by giving recipes, planning what can be prepared in advance and what has to be done on the day so that's me in school and cooking with my team at 8am in May.   Yikes!   Good morning tho.   The first local ingredient they suggested was brioche so that'll be Obxx' version of bread and butter pudding.......

They liked the cakes and I've been told the banana and chocolate is a keeper.   I'll put the recipe on Cooks' corner.

Weather is just grey and a bit damp and a bit windy and a bit of not much at all.  Set to be soggy this weekend tho so more hibernating for us.

Very pleased that Moira is doing well.   Congrats to Chicklet.   Hope all leaks get fixed.

Evening all. Stormy here and set to increase overnight. Hope you are all ok, particularly if stormy with you.
The Brian Cox talk sounds good Punk - I watch most stuff that he presents plus listen to The Infinite Monkey Cage radio4/podcast.
    Right, may the weekend begin...

Chicky big congratulations to Chicky, she must have worked very hard for that. Well done! More air miles for you and the family

I think that banana choc bread sounds divine
poor wee kittens what a horrid experience. I truly have never had to nurse a dog and we have had 8! So this is quite new and my back doesn’t get down so easily I have had to put a wee table by the crate to sit on

i always make my bread and butter pud with left over panatone or brioche

obelixx poor wee kittens it must have been ghastly for you

Exhausted, it’s been a pretty busy day here. Had no idea vetinary nursing was so hard patients dont understand ”keep still”
hope the wind hasn’t caused anyone any damage
Please tell us what Brian Cox was saying Punk
