There are still people in the UK who organise dog fighting, badger baiting, hare coursing, cock fights etc in the name of fun and gambling.   Not cultural these days but still shockingly prevalent.

I don't understand cruelty in any culture but it is widespread and will continue as long as people remain ignorant and uncaring about each other and other beings.

Bright, sunny, frosty start to the day and still very cold tho it's clouded over now.  Freezing fog for tomorrow but a bit of sun again on Monday.   Not venturing out anyway as I'm still bunged up with Possum's cold.  I shall stay in and cook the Creole cake whose fruit has now been soaking up the booze element for a good 10 days.   Should be good.

cruelty and evil are just that. The notion that cruelty having always existed makes any sort of justification for perpetuating it is ..... well I don't know what the word is for it. It makes me so angry.

I'm going to have to go and sit in the curmudgeon corner for a bit.

I agree RG.   No excuse for any of it.

We have just finished the fruit cake made approximately to Delias creole cake recipe. I made four in fruit loaf tins in November. An entire bottle of rum between them.  I soak as much fruit and nuts as required then stick it together with cake formula ( Equal weight eggs, flour , sugar and butter. )

We've taken down all the decorations and undressed the tree and put it all away. Then I cleaned the sitting room. Haven't done it since we put the decorations up, what with being ill and having the family to stay, it was very dusty, probably the wood burner, but goes to show how much dust there would be if I didn't do it regularly.

It's exciting putting them up but a relief when they come down.

We always take them down on the sixth. It was my Grandpa's birthday. I don't know if it was to have the decorations up for the party or what.  I always think when they get packed up that the place looks very bare. OH would be very minimalist if I let him. I would have too much stuff, but Xmas I get away with it.
There was an article in the Telegraph today about sorting out and tidying. They started by organising a bookcase into the colours on the book spines. Looks pretty but absolutely useless.  I do buy a lot less fiction  books than I used to. I get them on the kindle instead, but I do like non fiction books for reference. I keep gardening books together, marine biology books together , cook books together etc.

My daughter, ( degree in English Literature ) sent me a photo she found online, of a bookcase where they had the spines facing the back so all the "fronts" ie the pages , were all the same colour.
There are some Freaks out there!!
