"The Office for National Statistics figures cover up to 18 December so do
not include deaths from this year when the UK and the rest of Europe
experienced a third wave of coronavirus, leading to thousands of
Covid-19 deaths. About a third of the UK's Covid deaths have happened
since then."
I'm not getting into comparative figures as I don't think they're very helpful but if you pick and choose when you measure from and how you measure then you can always make things look better in some way. England also seem to lump themselves in with the rest of the UK to help bring down their figures when it suits them.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Back at school for just a few days, and my grandchildren are sharing COVID jokes!
-Two grandmothers were bragging about their wonderful grandchildren. One of them says to the other, “Mine are so good at social distancing, they won’t even call me!”
-What’s the best way to avoid touching your face?
A can of whatyoufancy in each hand! (???)
-During homeschooling, I asked mum why she was constantly talking to herself. She told me because she was having Parent-Teacher conferences.
I had rather missed playground jokes! Lots more to come, I have no doubt!
Yes, BLESS THEM and their parents...! After all, they wouldn't be the people they are without them!
And speaking of "their parents", my younger daughter, who knows I enjoy a certain type of humour, a couple of days ago, urged me to watch DNA Journey on ITV. She's well acquainted with Alan Carr's humour and felt certain I wouldn't switch the set off.
I did watch it and laughed out loud for most of the programme!
I'm one of those who earnestly believe that humour should be on the NHS!
(I hope the rest of the episodes will not be a disappointment by comparison.)
These doctors who become comedians ,politicians, gurus or whatever: do they have to pay anything back to the health service? I'm aware that laughter, in some quarters, is believed to be the best medicine but it wouldn't be my first preference.

I saw that too. Brilliant! Alan Carr is something else. I laughed so hard, tears were rolling down my face!
What are you talking about @SporophyteBoy ? Were you drunk when you wrote that?
If that's the case, it seems that I can string more words together while inebriated than you can sober - presuming that you were when you replied. My post referred to Doc Rachel Clark who was quoted quite a long way back by the time my offering hit the page - try and keep up.

Did you hear the joke about coronavirus? Never mind, I don’t want to spread it around!
So many coronavirus jokes out there, it’s a pundemic!
I’ll tell you a coronavirus joke now, but you’ll have to wait two weeks to see if you got it!
Bless my lovely teenagers!Yes, BLESS THEM and their parents...! After all, they wouldn't be the people they are without them!
