I love the songs and dances of the people.  I find them rather moving.

    So do I, Helen!

It's such a happy sight; the whole village appears to be dancing

I don't think it's just the whole village dancing; I think it's the whole island dancing.  Absolutely wonderful!

I've danced both of my left feet off all over Greece as an undergraduate but, having never been to Ikaros, I've never tried this one.  I can tell it's a SYRTOS, which even babies know all about there, but I love the extra figures.  I must try it soon!

I have enjoyed these two traditional dances immensely. Thank you Helen and Phaidra!

Today is the Feast of Panaghia (the mother of Christ); probably, the second greatest Feast Day of the Orthodox year, after Easter.  ΧΡΟΝΙΑ ΠΟΛΛΑ! (Many Happy Returns of the Day!)I imagine people are dancing in every part of Greece.

Artemis, you're correct; it is a Syrtos.  As for childhood memories, where do I begin...

Thank you, Phaidra.  I can't even begin to explain what joy the sight of all those happy people, dancing their local dance with their arms over their neighbours' shoulders, has given me!

Lovely videos both and so different: the Spanish keeping each other at arm’s length, the Greeks “hugging” their neighbours.  It got me thinking a little but never mind, I enjoyed both of them.

I don’t really know very much about Greek dances (and absolutely nothing about Spanish dances) but every hotel we’ve ever stayed at in Greece, had Greek dancers who danced syrtos and taught the steps to the guests.  Apparently, it’s the most ancient Greek dance and still the most popular. They always held hands and the steps were quite different.  However, I think the Ikarian version is great fun.

I’ve had a bit of a stressful day, so this was most welcome.  Thank you, Phaidra.

In the meantime, the current "PM" is "governing" the country from Chequers; or is it from Greece?

We stopped watching the BBC version of the news during the... reign of the "career psychopath".  It's only so much one can take!
