It is annoying in that I am sure I have seen that flower before, but for the life of me I cannot place it.

    Echium Vulgare?
    Definitely not any Echium sp
If you look carefully at a single flower on any  Echiums they have stamens/stigma which stick out further than the petals. See my pics below of Echium from Madeira.
      Jemula thank you for trying.
Link at bottom shows Echium vulgare.

That's really intriguing. Could the OP provide some more info and, possibly some more photos?
Does the foliage in the 3rd pic really belong to the same plant as pictured in pics 1 and 2?
Do the flowers or the leaves smell?
Is the stem covered in prickly or soft hairs?
Does look like the Lamiaceae family.
How about Glechoma hederacea (Ground ivy)?

  • I know the leaves are not right but it still looks foxglove like flowers to me

Penstemon flowers but not that green at the bottom.

Lamium orvala flowers are very very different...they are hooded with large bottom lip...and pink. Thank you Berghill for your suggestion.

    Papi Jo...sorry I only took 3 pics
yes foliage and flowers belong together as far as I could tell.
Sorry I didn't smell them...this was a small very dainty plant...just a few inches tall.
The stem to me looks ridged with a few  soft hairs.
I do not believe the stem to be square thus ruling out Lamiaceae.

I am very familiar with Glechoma hederacea..ground ivy. and an sure that is not the one.
See pics below of Glechoma hederacea..ground ivy
