You only have to have one open day a year but lots are by appointment only. I've heard some collection holders are very secretive about their collections.
I adore heucheuras but they number into the hundreds now and I must admit some of the varieties start to seem very similar. Too many new ones produced each year and not enough differentiation. I've got about 30 different ones and will try to be content with that. I'm trying to discipline myself to only buying one new one each year.
Like hostas - new ones all the time and usually not noticeably different form existing ones. Now if someone came up with a good looking selection of hostas that slugs and snails hate, that would be something to celebrate and collect.
As for me, I may well have to start a collection of plants that cope with full sun and months of drought and enjoy soils that are like solid brick. Any ideas?

Hi @Hostafan1 If you have a real passion then go for it x. Heucheuras are not susceptible to slugs and snails my hostas resemble fine lace by the end of the season despite being all off the ground and the usual precautions taken !
Here heucheras are killed off in no time by vine weevil. I've given up growing them.
Hostas are such a big group that the National Collections are broken down in to smaller groupings ,eg Giant leaved ( I think Prince Charles has one of these ), miniatures etc.
I've been told by some nurserymen friends that mine would qualify as a NC but I can't be fagged with rules and regulations and , quite frankly, having folk traipsing round my garden to look at them?No thanks. Invited guests yes, great, but random strangers making appointments?? Not for me.
I didn't know what a heuchera was until I acquired my allotment and started buying plants and now it is one of my favourites. Have quite a few already about 15 in all. But as you say @tessagardenbarmy they all look rather similar. Bought five online recently and thought at first I had been sent five of the same although they were actually different varieties. (Good online service - were quite mature and very healthy. Had expected small plug plants.) Think my favourite of those I currently have is Peach Flambe. Love the colours. Had no problems with slugs or snails.

I've got about 180 different varieties and could easily find that number again to buy.
