I think he made it clear that he has " quite a big garden" and that's why he has the number he has and that he enjoys the whole process, but I felt he explained that it can easily be done on a much smaller scale. I'm not a fan of everything he does, but I thought it was a great piece.
I think he does the compost item every year. Quite an important thing I think, for anyone who hasn't done it. Not seen it yet, but he usually does say that although he has plenty of room, you can tailor it to your individual garden size. They do it on Beechgrove too. Intrigued about the gooseberries now....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
A couple of years ago Monty mowed the stuff in the first bin to break up the bigger bits and help the composting process along. He was widely ridiculed because who, in an average urban or suburban garden, has enough space or materiel to be mowing it, or, indeed, the right kind of mower?
Now he's seen the light and got a shredder and he's still all wrong.
Get a grip people and a sense of scale!
Small garden, small heap and unlikely to heat up enough to cook stuff fast unless you turn it regularly. Maybe get a tumbler bin. Big garden? Anyone with any sense has a composting bin or three but not necessarily the time, energy or impetus to turn them as often as Monty does.
As for gooseberries, I loathe the green ones but OH is a fan so I bought him a couple of purple berried plants and have discovered that the purple ones are not just more attractive but taste good too and make great jam. Those competing for size are just nuts but oddly endearing.

With you on the gooseberries @Hostafan1 .... who wants a goosegog the size of a hen's egg? What good's that in a crumble .....
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Anoraks an optional extra?
