Whats this about the poisonous datura thing then, I missed that. I flooded our bathroom yesterday, bungalow, luckily floor is porclane (how do you spell that) tiles, put taps on for wash, there is an overflow, but quite small, and taps on full, was just going out. never done it before, (no, wont do it again!) stuck my head round to talk to Hubby, next thing, heard this weird water gushy type noise, eh! water over top of basin onto floor, airing cupboard next door, turned off aps,got out plug, then the clear up, unfortunately its gone underneath cupboard, basin/toilet,worktop all one unit, he removed the covers he put over the pipes to the bath, dried in airing cupboard, soaked and warped but we bought a pale green now discontinued.
NB - Lots of "please ID this" posts are for the datura weed.
Oops. I don't suppose it will all dry out with the heating on..........
We seem to have a bird stuck in the chimney behind the log burner. Usually they make it into the burner itself and we can let them out but this one's either too big or too thick.

What a saga KT! I hope you'll treat him to a slap up dinner or some such when it is done. He sounds like a gem. Good hols then?
Great holiday thanks -2 weeks in Elounda, Crete. Yes we'll take them out for a meal when he finishes and he really is a gem. As he can only work afternoons and evenings, I'm guessing about a week to complete. He will fit the rest of the doors on Monday and then we can start to fill the cupboards back up. At present our dining room table is completely covered and loads of tins and dry goods in bags in the conservatory.
The last big job is the walls above the worktop up to the top cupboards. Instead of tiles it's a single sheet to match the worktop (his suggestion I may add). One piece needs cut outs for 3 double powerpoints and a small window. He can't afford to get any part of the cutouts wrong. If ever there was a case for measure half a dozen times and cut once, this is it.
Back to curmugeon mode. On the GW website today somebody said don't discuss anything from last night's programme as they hadn't watched it yet. Come on! It's not like discussing the final episode of Bodyguard or something!
We had a new kitchen installed here after deciding the existing one didn't work - too low, badly organised, mad gas cooker and spent ages with said cooker wheeled into the dining room and a few pots and pans and crocks on shelf units we normally use in the shed and garage. Luckily we have a walk thru pantry with cupboards, fridge and freezers for storing food and drink.
It all took weeks too as we dismantled the old one to recycle as many cupboards as possible and then I prepped and panted the walls before chappy came in to install the new stuff. Ceramic worktop and splash back so also needed careful measuring. It's well worth the time and inconvenience tho and we're very pleased with it.

Grump about mad scientists. Have just been reading an article about some "science" project in the Var region of France where they buried cotton knickers in 32 different places in order to guage the rate at which they break down and thus the health of the soil but they give no actual results apart from the photo and no explanations of what they expected.
How's that supposed to help anyone?

Well, if your knickers blow off the line in a strong wind, you will have some idea of the length of time available to retrieve them before they rot away.
Except they haven't said but apparently they chose knickers rather than just bits of cotton because of the different properties of the elastic in them. Barking.

PC grump this time. My old laptop was starting to have problems with its screen so I've been moved to Possum's ASUS which is quite new but abandoned as it won't hold all the graphics software she needs. It's smaller, has a French keyboard which for some reason is different from a Belgian and less memory so I've been clearing off stuff to separate hard disks.
The grump? Some *rsehole put the off button next to the delete button which is just stuid and there is no numeric pad or numlock. Biggest grump? It has taken hours just to move off all the newest photos and documents to the external disks and now thinks it needs a whole day to move my music? Is it that complicated?
I'm off to play with plants and let it contemplate its navel in peace.
