I'm feeling beyond curmudgeonly today :#
My white cosmos have bloomed and they're horrible tatty sh##e. They look like the slugs have got at them and nibbled off half the petals. They're a mucky sort of white too.
It's partly my own fault because I just picked a packet of seeds without looking at the variety. Even if I did, the picture is a lie.
They're called cosmos cosmonaut. (The Latin is bipinnatus but I didn't read that or I'd have known they were double-  ok I get the value of Latin names .I assume pinnatus means tatty sh##e)
I'm going to compost them and look for something decent.

I'm grumpy with my cosmos too. Most are shocking pink, when I was going for dark plum. I am developing rather a loathing for pink. Because all garden plants are secretly pink and will burst out if given half a chance.

I pulled out most of sweet peas yesterday in high dudgeon. It felt cathartic but now I have an empty, ugly planter right by the front door. I might move the planter. I've decided I really do hate watering and should just accept this fact and go for a drought tolerant garden instead of tomatoes and very thirsty plants and small planters.

Oh, and I hurt my back gardening and lifting in a hurry yesterday. So, so stupid. Limping today.

B, yes, 'pinnatus' means 'plants that turn out rubbish and we feel so disappointed we want to sue whoever came up with this bloody daft cultivar'.

@Fire, you might be able to pick up a nice canna at this time of year , marked down.
That's fill the pot for the rest of the season.

I have some autumn flowering wall flowers arriving tomorrow so will probably go with those. I just hope they're "garden-ready".

What a strange phrase that is.
