Queue. It's made up of one necessary letter and 4 more that are silently waiting their turn.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Been putting battens and hooks in my new shed. Why are all the screws I've got either too short or too long as well as too fat or too thin. It's just not fair and don't tell me life isn't fair, I know that, my Mum told me  :(

Dire Straits and Chris Rhea have formed a new band (it would now be as old as the joke!) they were going to call themselves Chris Straits but changed their minds

My husband loved that joke, it was one of his repertoire of seven 'good' jokes, now its back in my head

Here's a useful grammar tip.  These are nouns:.  Practice, licence, advice. And these are verbs: practise, license, advise.  Practise and license sound the same in both forms, but advice and advise sound different.  So if you're not sure whether to put a c or an s, advice/advise gives you the rule for the others.

Blame 'queue' on the French. Apparently, we didn't queue before 1066

Is it wrong to be grumpy when you reply to a post asking for help and the person never responds? I try to assume that there's a reason, like they just forgot they posted or even just forgot to reply but it always just seems a bit rude.

No. It's OK. Not even curmudgeonly really.

I'm glad the row didn't kick off on this thread. I blame it on the heat.
