Hi obelixx and Hogweed .Thank you for your input . I can afford to get someone in. But letting go of the reins is something else .I always think that they will cut corners or make a mess .Then I will think that I may as well have done it myself. I could get someone in to do the big jobs and do the rest myself.
No-one will ever do it the way you do. One or two may surprise you and do it better. I had one of those once. Never had such clean windows and skirting boards. Get in touch with your local cleaning agency and see about rates, hours needed and then make up your mind if it's worth it to have that extra time for your own more interesting pursuits.

I didn't mind painting but I hated cleaning the brushes/rollers out. Ditto with hedge cutting - it was the clearing up I hated. When you pay someone to do these things, they have those tasks to do! Like everything else, as long as you are clear about what you want/expect, they should reach your standards! And recommendations from friends are always good.

Today's moan. Why do so many tv programmes have half the story before the opening credits roll? Used to be only US programmes but now I am noticing it happening on UK programmes as well.

This thread has made me laugh out loud at times! But I wasn't laughing when, chasing the company that was due to bring and fit son's new living room carpet (we had gone to his place to oversee things while he was at work) I was told that they couldn't talk to me without first speaking to my son. Who was at work. Who had designated me as his legal agent to sort things out. Which fact I told the young whippersnapper on the end of the phone (and even if he had spoken to my son - how would he know? Voice recognition? Crystal Ball?). It's all to do with this wretched new data protection stuff. Bah! Humbug! It's pathetic. (If it had been financial/medical I would have understood it - but a carpet company?)
