That's the problem with percentage pay rises ...  5% of a  salary of £15,000 gives you an additional £14.42 per week

5% of £150,000 is £7,500 that's half of some people's annual salary  (or an additional £144+ per week)

And the next percentage payrise means that the gap increases exponentially ... percentage payrises increase inequalities.

@ Dove, what folk gets paid is nothing to do with  what they "earn"

    It surprises me

    a) how few women make the list, esp at the top
    b) how few I've ever heard of (I'm not very old)
    c) how many Eastenders actors make the list

Jo, £150k a "modest income"? Really? To me, it seems like a parallel universe. But then I dither about bus fare.

Oh how I have enjoyed reading this thread! I rarely read every post because I am far too impatient. A great way to spend a very hot afternoon! Keep up the good work!

I know of 10 out of the top 12. After that I am struggling big time  with the names.  And I certainly wouldn't call £150K a 'modest income'. That's 10 years salary to some of our lower paid.

It seems to me that whenever they think if a mildly interesting quiz programme or competition, they change the format to include celebrities I've never heard of. Even if I had, it's more interesting to watch nonslebs who have probably been vetted to see if they have the mental capacity to answer some of the questions rather than cringe with embarrassment watching some z list soap pretty boy/girl struggling to answer a simple question.

I earn below the tax threshold, so that's about 15 years of my income

Me too Hosta. And sometimes I feel guilty about not paying any tax.  Puts it all into perspective when you see what some people earn.  Then there’s expenses on the top.
