This is a great thread, really interesting to see what people grow and what works and doesn’t....

    Will do again:

Garden Pearl tomatoes in pots – beautiful  to look at, ornamental and tasty – crops well

Cucumber – marketmore – never had a bad crop – very good and tastes good

Potatoes – Charlotte, definitely, also Desiree which I didn’t do this year but have had loads of success and also King Edward but if I could choose just one it would be Charlotte as second early  or leave in for maincrop

Chard – different varieties - always does well for me

    Spinach – always does well

Florence Strawberries: yes for sure, very good, large juicy berries

Butternut Squash – always does well – can’t remember the  name of variety I grow

Garlic – Germidour, Cristo, Casablanca , a definite yes

    Possibly:

Petty Pan – summer squash – did this for first time this year, in pot – slow growing but produces lovely yellow saucer like squash but it has only produced 2 fruits thus far so not sure it would do better in ground

Beetroot: boltardy and Detroit  – produced very little this year, strange as normally does well so need to re-evaluate this one

    Nope/never again:

Carrots – no way, A definite no.

Pumpkins – I have found they take up too much space to merit growing – also they don’t form as well as butternut and some of the pumpkin may rot (just from my own experience) butternut seems to be better option for me

White Lisbon Spring Onions – no way. A NO.  I’ve tried and tried but nothing seems to produce.

Produce that I’m new to growing and still waiting to see how they turn out over a longer period:

    Potted blueberries

    Autumn raspberries

    Red Hinomaki gooseberries

    Rhubarb

    Asparagus

I grew mini cucumber Nimrod , this year, but I find them seedy. I think Cucina was better. I must order seeds earlier next year.

Love growing tomatoes in the GH, Polytunnel or in hanging baskets, the greater the variety the better but includes Moneymaker, Sweet Millions.

Don't grow courgettes in the GH, next year they are going outside or in the polytunnel.

I'd like to grow the not-Gardeners-Delight yellow plum tomatoes again, but I don't know what they are.  Maybe I'll try saving some seed.

One definite to grow again for next year are Pepper de Padron. I love them salted with a bit of olive oil , wrapped in foil and then put on the bbq.

Dwarf French beans in a trough. I don't have room for veg but they have given a good yield.

I won't be growing Tanacetum 'James kelway' what a horrible plant - droopy large daisy type with lurid 'yeah baby!  Colours. Nothing like the picture.

I'm with whoever says no more echiums. 2 or 3 years looking at a not very pretty plant then worry about how to stake the flower. Too much faffing.

    Things I won't try again

Dwarf bean Polka. the pack shows it a nice yellow colour, in reality it's exactly the colour a normal green bean goes when it gets too old. Not appetising at all.

Courgette Grisette de Provence Small fruit, weak plants and the fruit grow club shaped meaning they turn seedy very early on, I will have to try the Romanesco suggestion earlier in the thread for a light/stripey courgette

Tomato Tigerella Very productive, pushing 2-3 kg per plant but pretty tasteless unless they are left so long they get mushy.

    Varieties I am sold on..

Black beauty courgette Hugely productive producing courgettes every day, down side could be that it makes a huge plant that produces 4-5 growing points and then goes for it, easily 2m in diameter.

Golden Zucchini courgette not as productive as Black beauty but really firm bright yellow fruit that hold on the plant for several days before trying to turn into marrows.

Aguadulce Broad bean grows really well and tastes the best of the varieties I have tried.

Sungold Tomato I'm not growing it this year I tried Cerry cerise instead, not a patch on my normal sungold and I am missing them!
