Actually not Obelixx. Spitting is allowed in many sports where longish distance running is required. You may find it offensive to see but it is not against the rules and is often essential for athletes. Some athletes throw up and even our dear Paula Radcliffe had to crap on the sidewalk during the Marathon one year.
I don't consider her any less of a "hero" because of that.
If a male another species spat on the ground where other males were present and likely to have to step on it, we would call it territorial or sexual display. Two things annoyed me about the spitting last night: 1 I was eating 2. You see young boys (children) spitting in the street. They are emulating their heroes. I can't play football like whoever but I can spit like him. These children become adults who find spitting socially acceptable. I find spittle on the street more offensive than dog poo.
I also find FD's faulty causal reasoning offensive and I don't assume that all Freddies have a father who makes offensive remarks on gardening forums Daisy, the potting shed doesn't have to be about gardening. It's a good place for a rant or to get non-gardening advice or opinions or just to have a bit of fun between bouts of gardening
I despise spitting, but sportsmen spitting isn't just a bad habit, its a necessity.
Whatever your thoughts on whether they are overpaid prima donnas etc, they are undoubtedly world class athletes in peak physical condition, an unfit footballer simply wouldn't get into a team.
The spitting is a way of clearing their airways after a burst of energy, such as a 100m sprint in a time that isn't too far off an olympic athletes. I agree its not pleasant to see somebody spitting, but it helps their performance. Its always been the case in most sports, its just that you didn't use to have close up camera angles on every player so you didnt notice it so much.
As for the ridiculously bigoted and offensive comments, the less said the better
I love sport and love gardening. I played sport and I spat, I found it essential. Spitting is not class related, to say it is, is deeply offensive. Poster responsible for this comment, should apologise, or failing that remove themselves from the site.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
