    I'm not into sport, but I've never noticed a tennis player do it and an American footballer would get what he deserves.

    I suppose it's a bad habit to eat in front of the television, but they should warn you when an overpaid ball-kicker is going to do something disgusting.

    They should play all football in Singapore where there are heavy fines for spitting in public - http://singapore-the-fine-city.com/2016/05/what-is-the-price-to-pay-for-spitting-in-the-public-in-singapore/   Apart form being unpleasant it's a health hazard.

    I don't watch football.   Far too many other mindless unpleasantries apart from the spitting.

    It's seen on rugby pitches, in athletics and at the varsity boat races as well as soccer pitches.  It is nothing to do with class, income or race and to suggest that it is, is far more offensive than the act itself.
