Neighbour and tree height query

  • There is a tree between these two trees which normally would've filled this gap. And although it doesn't look like much, he has actually cut the back of our other trees too quite a bit, which has probably weakened them and of course the branches are a lot more see through. The neighbour adjacent wouldn't have been able to see our bedroom window.
  • I got some advice from a solicitor who said that we should ask for the lease maps to check our boundary as the fence posts on the ground aren't always correct....I think I wish the whole process of selling up would be easier but the sheer thought is a nightmare. The house is a bit of a mess at the moment to say the least with the planned extension and having a 7 month old baby....

Better to get sorted now than come home from shopping to find he's taken the lot down to three foot.

Yes, but if he did that - he'd be in real trouble @Liz.Spr
I'd worry that if you capitulate on this, it'll just be something else. @philippasmith2 is right - some folk are just totally unpleasant, aggressive and controlling.
You can't reason with unreasonable people either.

You have my utmost sympathy too @New Gardener, especially when you have a wee baby, and you're just looking forward to enjoying everything about your garden, your home and your new family life.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thanks all for your advice and support. I hate being in this situation and will struggle to deal with it, I already didnt sleep last night and can't eat today with worry. ( I do have quite bad anxiety). I know it doesn't add much but I forgot to say, a few weeks ago we thought we smelt oil coming from under the trees. At the time I wondered if he was trying to harm the trees but dismissed it...

Contact your local Police Support and tell them all this . Don't be bullied .
I wish you all the best
    Devon.
  • We had a look at the lease map and it says our garden and property reaches back 110 ft. Any ideas how I would measure this? And is it true that the boundary posts in the ground are not usually accurate ( as per the solicitor)?

I think checking the boundary is a good idea - just so that you're clear on where it is. The other suggestions of community police, and Citizen's Advice etc too. Anyone who can listen and offer help.

While it's always nice to be accommodating with a new neighbour, some people just see it as a pathetic little victory if they can get you to do something they want, when you clearly don't want it.
If he feels you're worried/stressed etc, he'll possibly try to force the issue, because you become an easier target.
I also needed to add an extension to this house, and seriously considered not bothering, and just moving again, even though I'd just moved in. I stuck to my guns [although it was a slightly different situation from yours] and things settled down when people realised I wasn't going to be a pushover.
