Cat Problem

There's many people who have the same problem but how can I keep the cats out of my garden? They're wrecking my flowers, pooping in my veg & have even started messing on my patio, despite the fact that we have a dog now. My next door neighbours cat is on the hunt for anything to kill now that the fledglings are coming out & I'm at my wits end as it's encouraging it to come into my garden more. Last year it killed one of my baby Blue Tits and this year it's already killed a baby Starling. What can I do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated I've already tried the usual, sonic repellent, scent repellent, chilli powder, citrus, brambles etc. nothing is deterring it sadly!

I'm just going to sit on my hands. This has been a contentious topic on here recently to say the least :#
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Water scarecrow. They really do work (unlike everything else). Don't look at any other cat related threads or you might lose the will to live....

As S. Gardener says - it's the only thing that works. Trust us!

Unless you have the funds to enclose your entire garden with various barricades, barbed wire/razor wire and perhaps a sniper and an army of dogs .... :D

Hosta - I think you should up your rates to a tenner - it would make you a millionaire in a few days   :D

  • Oh well, I've got a dog in the fight now, metaphorically speaking.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Cat poo on my (still being prepared) lawn area; way too close to my Great Tit family in the bird box for my liking as well.

I would not want to be Tiddles if I happen upon it.

kitkat, it's a perfectly reasonable question but one that has been asked many times before.  The reality, as you have discovered, is that it's near impossible to keep the ****** things our of your garden.  If your garden is large they hear you coming and scarper quickly.  If you think you might be able to get close enough to use a water gun on them you might try filling it with vinegar instead of water.  Get them with that a few times and they might reconsider using your garden as a toilet.
  • If you know whose cat it is and depending upon your relationship with them, I would give them a cheap poop scoop and a roll of poo bags with a polite request they pop in twice a day to clean up.

Trouble is , cats usually cover it up. You don't find it until you get a handful while weeding. In the snow, the neighbours cat was making snowmen with his heaps. I removed the frozen specimens before they defrosted.
