The annoying thing is that I totally agree. I think if anyone here can understand this logic, you may need to speak to someone. But come here first and explain the logic before you do
What are you going to do with all that rubble you now have in the garden? I have an idea, can you get your hands on an old plastic barrel?

    Not even a Time Capsule?
    SW Scotland
  • its not a 15mm copper water pipe ! but a 15mm threaded bar... that appears to go no where, inside the barrel ?........ it looks like it was bolted to a wall or something else. The 1st picture of it, shows it upright cast. But no lid is showing in the casting ? so how was it filled with hardcore ?? before pouring runny concrete into the barrel ??.....

2nd, why the vent with a metal frame, for a terracotta wall vent ??........ defo got me !! the angled trough reinforcement seams to be top to bottom though ?? many different hardcore bits in it ! brick, slate, metal, sand, and more ! why build a frame for the vent ?
  • Could just be a washing line, pole barrel ? that rotted away in the past ?... the side bar to tie of the washing line ? the vent though ?? doubt we will ever know !! garden conundrum !

We may have to put this down to the creators very unique sense of humour...

Maybe they got tired of their bird table being knocked over by badgers, and decided to make a solid base for it?

Ummm, they didn't want to take all their rubbish to the tip so put it all in there and for good measure tipped in a lot of cement they didn't want either? !!!
Then fitted a vent for good measure, and a bar to attach it to a wall ? or something else ??......... James may be right, creators sense of humor..... it was the 60's after all, flower power in the garden !!

It looks like the one bit of metal was there to hold the vent in place, but the vent didn't go anywhere? :|  I guess it must have been a weight for something. but why the damn vent! :s
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Maybe the vent and pipe/rod were attached to the barrel for some reason before it was filled with concrete?
