ooh just had a thought, could there be an old septic tank under there. that would need a vent, and Im continually knocking ours over. Not sure Id go to the extremes of filling a water butt with concrete to get round it though, but then Im not sure Id go to the extremes of filling a water butt with concrete for anything

That's rather taking things to extremes ... constructing something like that, rather than buying a proper vent from Screwfix or the 1970s/80s equivalent ... even now a bit of plastic piping and a push on air vent can be obtained for under £30!  ........ but there's nowt as strange as folk  :/

Id imagine there is a much easier off the shelf solution for whatever it is! My guess is anybody who would construct that is the kind of person who would come up with their own free solution for most things!

I have no helpful suggestions but I’ve bookmarked this thread so I don’t miss the ending 😁
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

I have cleared my TV viewing schedule for tonight ! I am in two minds, it could be something really exciting, or a damp squib (so to speak). I can honestly say l have never seen anything like it before  :)

Jellyfire, it'd be great for getting you down to the seabed, not so good for the return journey...

Maybe the previous owner was fibbing as she didn't want to be blamed for... whatever it is. This seems pretty standard practice among some house sellers.
