A bit of excitement for the Friends of Queen's Park on Thursday. I got a call at 9.15am to say the Beeb were sending a researcher to Llandudno, and she would be arriving at the park in half an hour!  Quick scramble to get round the corner, where a couple of other volunteers, a lady from the Llandudno in Bloom committee and the mayor in his best suit and chain of office had assembled to welcome Harriet from the Britain in Bloom series.  If they decide we're worth including in the programme, they'll be filming next month for broadcast this time next year.

Did they say when they would let you know ? I hope they give you a bit of notice !

I find it fascinating how the areas have different budgets etc. Yesterday Tewkesbury had a helicopter for the judges, today Stechford had to contend with Japanese Knotweed, and discarded needles and nappies.

I suspect they called in a favour for that helicopter.   Haven't seen the Stetchford one yet.

I do despair a bit at the prevalence of nasty plasticky begonias and endless marigolds.  Surely cheaper to sow their own plants and grow them on and then they could be a bit more original.   Other than that, you have to admire their dedication to brightening up their communities and getting people working together.

I especially enjoyed the Shrewsbury one as we'd been there on holiday and had admired the Dingle.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Just heard from the BBC and they're going to film us in Queens Park.  Joe Coral is offering odds on how many "volunteers" will suddenly materialise, only to vanish without a trace when the cameras have stopped rolling.  Cynical, moi?  (Cameras "rolling"?  Doesn't that betray my age?)

Still, as long as you make sure these "volunteers" have a job to do and make sure they keep doing it, every pair of hands can help. Just depends how keen they are to have their face on TV !
