Lizzie, you have my admiration. I only had my garden judged once about 10 years ago for a BBC competition, and that was so nerve wracking. There's no way l could open for visitors (although I love having a nosey around other people's gardens!). Today l have mostly been deadheading and staking before going around with the hosepipe and watering cans. Things are starting to dry out again, and no sign of rain in the near future.

Today, I made progress away from the project of creating lawn and borders out of what was a patio garden towards maintenance: installing wire for training the lonicera, mowing, weeding, dead heading roses, trimming the jasmine. Later this evening, watering and putting down more slug pellets, which seem to have slowed their attacks to a halt.

Good luck to all of you opening your gardens. I would love to nosey around some of them.

@ChrisWM looks to be a busy day. We haven't had to deal with slugs, thank goodness.

I'm sitting here in my field of Vinca wondering how inappropriate it would be to hunt down the previous owner and flog them with a wadge of it.

Completely appropriate I believe, on the proviso you’re not identified 😉

  • Just been out on the rear lawn and re-seeded three small patches as it spoilt the whole look. I will now wait till the area covers over and all looks well again.
I am sitting in the summer house now relaxing with a large Pimms

OH dug up a massive root, trying to level the ground for a hard stand, the soil was black and looked good,so I trudged up and down the garden with buckets of it to put round my plants that have builders sand around them, after the terrace was paved recently.

I planted out the last of my home grown Penstemons, hoping they may flower this season, they're looking as though they may? Also planted tiny ferns in the wall and dead headed the roses and Clems, ready for the second flush!

We've trimmed the front hedge a bit, strimmed the verge, brushed the drive down (nearly 3 bags of debris), deadheaded the wisteria, tied in the roses and clematis' I was awake at 5 am and photographing the garden at 7. am. We've now collapsed yet again in a big heap with a very large glass of very cold white wine.  I am so very tired this time round AnniD that I haven't the energy to be apprehensive - that will probably come on Saturday morning!

Not had much time today (work. Mmmmph). Contented myself by pinching out the toms, tying up the cucumber(again!), spraying the hostas with garlic water and putting an extra support up the Delphinium as they reckon we could have 40mph winds Thursday😲
Gardening. The cause of, and solution to, all of my problems.

Pottered around doing some weeding and watering.  I did deadhead the penstemon.. they weren't completely finished, but close enough.  Hopefully they put out a second flush later in the summer.

I've been pruning large shrubs and I've got aphid hair :(.
At least it's not ants or earwigs.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
