Dove, you make a fair point, but each to their own. Must admit when l saw the photos, l thought that was the look that Angela was going for using "real" plants etc. I must be honest and think it's a clever idea, but suspect they are quite expensive  :) . When /if the day comes that l can't garden any more, l might go for one of these !
I’ll let you know how I fare with them, they do have excellent reviews, mixed in with real plants may enhance the affect, we’ll see. Ooops I’ve created a bit of a stir ;)

The only(?) criticism I have about the wall art is that the perspective of the views would be all wrong for a small garden. They would look ok if they were at the end of a long garden but when you are seeing them in close-up all the time, the effect would be totally wrong.

Hi Angela sorry i am late joining this post. I too have a small back garden and we've used sleepers to make a raised bed/border along the rear of the fence. It is now well established with large shrubs which have helped to provide a nice screen back drop and privacy. When the garden is laid bare as yours is, being created, just keep in mind that in time you will have your dream. Enjoy :)
Thank you Mrs Glaze, I’ll see if I can get some fast growing shrubs.  I’m looking forward:)

Thank you Hogweed, I get that to be fair, I’m just going to try and give an illusion of space in our small garden and will pick the canvas carefully and surround it with real plants of similar colour. You can have a Caribbean view 😳too ;) I guess that would look a bit false any time of the year here in uk 🇬🇧  but I’m not knocking it, it would be different and would look good it a modern fun garden with palms 😆 thanks again 👍🏻
  • Sorry, I don't actually have any pics of that part of the garden.  Please think twice about pampas grass ... it'll be much much too big for those beds.    Have a look at this one
    https://www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/calamagrostis--acutiflora-karl-foerster/classid.2000012392/ ... it's absolutely gorgeous but won't turn into a monster.

Think Hosta will agree ... he grows this grass and gave us one of his and it's turned me into a 'grasses fan'  :)
Hi Dovefromabove and Hogweed. I was thinking of containing the pampas within the sleepers would this work do you think? I could attach a drawing I did but not sure how to :( Angie

I thought we'd already done pampas and said it won't work.    It seems to me that you are going about this project like a bull in a china shop, just rushing about without a proper plan or decent research.

You can google plants for their eventual height and spread and that will tell you pampas grass in that space won't work, as we have already.   Now it seems you fancy fast growing shrubs - they won't stop growing when they get to a size that suits you but will take over and be out of scale and not harmonius.

I think you should slow down and do some research on small garden and courtyard design - plenty of info on the net and in books about how to make a small garden appear more spacious and how to choose plants to enhance rather than make the space look bitty and cramped.   You do need a plan and carefully chosen plants which will suit not just their planting situation but also look after themselves as you seem to have no real understanding of how plants grow or what care they will need to survive, let alone thrive.
