A word of explanation for my view.

This is the Gardeners’ World forum. The dictionary gives a definition of a garden as “a piece of ground devoted to the growing of flowers, fruit, vegetables etc.”

There isn’t a flower, fruit or vegetable in this place. It is a theatre set not a garden.

If the OP wants to build a stage set, fine. But why ask people who are “devoted to the growing of flowers, fruit and vegetables etc.” what they think of a stage set?

As a stage set, I’m sure it would be worthy of the Old Vic. As a garden, nul points

Surely you are aware, hmmm maybe not? I really don’t need your explanation, your view has no relevance to my question and your response therefore is of no interest to me whatsoever, are you a Troll? Please do not respond to my posts anymore, now that would be very much appreciated!

    Thank you

Whooah, where did that come from Angela? I think you just lost all the Brownie points credited to you from your original good-natured acceptance of some critique.
Pansy is not a troll, she offers honest advice on a "take it or leave it" basis.

Angela, I have just posted what I hope are some friendly, constructive suggestions on your other railway sleepers thread...
    Thank you much appreciated 👍🏻

we line our graves with that ‘grass’ I wonder what will happen when the dogs use it as a loo, there’s plastic underneath.

Apparently it quickly starts to smell REALLY bad. You should bear in mind that you will have to wash it with either mild bleach or soapy water fairly regularly if the dogs are, er, using it. That will have a detrimental effect on plants near by. So raised beds are a good strategy in principle to keep the soap off the soil, but make sure you have an effective drain so you can sweep the cleaning fluid away without it leaching into planting areas.

I love the changing seasons - it's sort of the point of gardening to me - so I've never come across the fence canvas things. In general though, most painted or printed images fade in sunlight. So I would imagine it may be OK on a north facing fence but if it's a sunny spot, it may not last very long. I've no idea what they cost, so don't know if it would be a sensible short term strategy to get instant 'view' then bin it when the garden in front grows up a bit?
Eeek bit worried about the doggy smells on the grass, ill work on keeping it very clean as we did with the patio.
Good idea re the canvas etc then once the Garden had become established we can get rid of items not needed. Thabk you 👍🏻

I checked Angela's previous posts as my first thought on seeing the thread title was "Weekend, here we go again".
Angela, please don't be put off, l think the response so far will tell you that no-one here has had experience of these. I take it from the pictures you have posted that you are going to have real plants in front of the wallart, but l wonder if it would look a bit weird in the middle of December looking at at a Summery scene ?
True, there is that, especially when it snows. I’ll have to invest in a winter wonderland scene ;)

I don't think it's an ad but I don't think it's gardening either.   Since I like plants and wildlife I can't give any helpful advice about canvas plant pictures or artificial grass except to say it will be very dull and boring and unchanging and still need maintenance.

    Not cheap either.
    There’s a point I’ll bear in mi d thank you. 👍🏻

    I agree with Kitty - I don't think this is a spam / advert posting.  :(

I'm also not clear whether the idea is that the canvas covers the whole fence or it's effectively like hanging smaller pictures on the fence. I think the first of those would not look good. The second option would not be to my taste but may brighten the fence a bit.

OH is a pretty good photographer these days (but don't tell him ;) ...) and we've had some of his pictures enlarged and mounted on aluminium to use in the kitchen and bathroom. One of them is a large splashback behind the hob.

Because they are bonded onto the aluminium they are waterproof (so are steam resistant and washable) and they can be mounted outside.

It wouldn't be my sort of thing - but maybe a few enlarged (perhaps life sized) pictures of individual plants could be placed on the fence? Or more abstract images?

The pictures we have are very easily mounted on just a couple of screws and they can be changed very, very quickly and easily. You could have winter flowers in winter, spring ones in spring etc. Or perhaps more abstract images using spring colours / autumn hues etc as appropriate.

I don't think you will ever achieve a trompe l'oeil  - amazing garden - effect if that is what you were thinking of.
Thank you, I agree there’s nothing like the real thing. Good idea to keep in line with the changing seasons 👍🏻

As I mentioned before, we use that artificial grass to cover the spoil heap and the edge of the graves, the mice chewed ours they seem to like it for nesting material.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

Why has Angela been "spam flagged"? 😕
I can't see a blatant advertising link, just a pic of her garden, images of an idea, and her question.
    A bit mean imo 👎.

Hi Angela 😃.  Sorry i can't advise about the canvas idea, haven't used or heard of them before.
Are you trying to create the illusion of a secret garden beyond the fence?  I suppose it might work when viewed from a distance if the edges were obscured by dense planting similar to the image.

Personally i think you'd struggle to make it blend in and look natural, especially on a wet grey day like today.
Each to their own... Your garden, your choice.
Thanks Kitty2, I confirm it’s not spam. Still love Gardeners World. ;)
