@Palaisglide Uncle Frank I need your advice urgently- A strange bright thing has just emerged from the clouds & there is steam coming off the patio is it safe to go outside? Can I take my sou'wester & wellies off? Remember I am a soft southerner, as the elder statesman of this thread your advice eagerly sought.
Allotment Boy, How did that happen dear nephew, my experience living in Newpark Road at the top of Brixton Hill, a bright light was something that went bang. A tin hat and wellies gas cape bucket of sand and a stirrup pump usually covered all the angles. Later experience in a very hot place taught me to have a corrugated sheet and a Benghazi burner ready so we could shovel the falling Locust's on the sheet and roast them. In any case take an Umbrella. Frank. PS that same golden orb has been shining on me all day but then we North Easterners are tough but I may go and put some clothes on now, the Neighbours are due home.
I thought you might be interested in our village's comparative weather stats for the last 3 years. We have by no means had it worst this winter/spring so I'm sure many of you have experienced much bigger contrasts.
From the beginning of November to end of April we had in 2016, 2017 and 2018 respectively: Average Daily Max 10.8c, 11.0c, 9.8c Average Nighttime Min 4.8c, 3.2c, 3.0c Total Rainfall 272mm, 318mm, 448mm
Not a very long historical record, but it does show it's not our imagination that it's been a rather cool and soggy winter.

Stockton on Tees, That big golden orb above shining down on the righteous (probably because we deserve it) a breeze rather cool at the moment but temperature rising. There is a bit of a sea mist over the coast though it is burning off now. Paul in Surrey, having one memorable year climbed out of the bedroom window and dug my way down to the door to let those inside out, I do not call this a winter at all. That same year I uttered the memorable words "Sergeant, where is the train we are suppose to dig out" and he whispered gently in my ear "YOU ARE STANDING ON IT LAD start digging" he was right, we live and learn.
