    @Hostafan1 ... some of my hostas are peeking out of the soil

    in fact, all of the ones in containers are appearing  :)

    and I've repotted the canna which spent the winter in the garage and it has some lovely fat shoots, and the Cautleya spicata 'Robusta' which spent the winter in its pot on the terrace appears fit and healthy too.   B)

    @Dovefromabove, aw bless'em.
    Don't panic about the Cautleya, it is sometimes well into Mid May before it starts, but once it does, it doesn't hold back.

    I have to sow any peas or beans in pots and start them off indoors as my garden is full of a variety of small brown furries which eat any peas and beans sown in the open ground. My cat brings me a regular supply of pressies, mice, field mice, rats, shrews and moles so I have admitted defeat and sow indoors.

    Hi Joyce

    We have lots of mice in our garden and some of my sweet peas were destroyed by them (as well as them messing around with my chard!!).  Anyhow I wanted to say that I'm trying peas sown straight outside but under upcycled plastic bottles (as cloche type of design).  I don't think they've been successful yet but my "control" peas (i.e. those sown inside) have also not yet germinated - I live in hope.

    Hi Pat when you pop in, we lived in Black Rock. Neighbours say all plots are being rebuilt to maximise living space.   No one wants a garden! I planted so many things😩
    That is just plain silly!

    I have seen several tips about dunking pea seeds in paraffin before sowing as the smell puts off the meeces but doesn't stop germination.  After that of course you need to protect against slimesters but that's another battle.

    Dunking peas in paraffin is what my mother always did, and it worked.

    OH is back from the concert so it's bed time, nighties all.

    Morning all.
    Almost a whole night of sleep. Awake, asleep , awake , asleep, but I didn't end up in the kitchen .
    Working today, tomorrow ( why did I agree? ) and Tuesday. At least it's dry and bright.

    Good morning all  :) G'day Pat when you pop in  :)
    Overcast and damp here this morning ... but the garden looks great from the back bedroom window ... OH raked the veg patch down to a fine tilth and is ready for the next fine day and all the plants on the terrace are repotted and rating to go ... and I'm as stiff as a board  :smile:
