I like the way it's done in blocks.

I was wondering were those maybe old repairs. It would be quite difficult to mend in that herring bone pattern if it was damaged. It's truly a work of art!

    Good Delabole slate  :D

I've just noticed that the Clematis alpina 'Pamela Jackman' which only had tiny little buds yesterday is in bloom today  :)

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

It's a long wall. I wonder if the  ( presumably ) man who originally did it thought it was a good way to show off his skills.

Could be he just got bored and decided to go off piste here and there.  Whichever it was he did a cracking job.

I love Devon walls.  Never seen stone used vertically (or diagonally, as in Hosta's amazing example) anywhere else.

Thanks very much for the recipe, Obelixx.  It looks easy as well as delicious so I'll try it out soon.  Might be nice with some bits of stem ginger incorporated...

What a fab day!  The park volunteers got rid of loads of self-set laurels and re-growing rhododendrons from a very steep bit of the park, and tackled a big patch of brambles.  A kind neighbour came out with drinks for all of us.  Then in the afternoon I got the grass cut and edged, sowed some seeds, did some weeding, and squashed some lily beetles on the fritillaries.  Pretty things, so I feel a bit guilty squishing them, but I don't think there's an alternative...

Hurling in Ireland is a different matter altogether.  Fierce game... my granddaughters play the female version which is called Camogie.  Scary!

Sorry to hear Mrs PD didn't get the job.  Better things will be round the corner, I'm sure.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Liri you read my mind on two counts. Painsburys does an own brand orange and ginger marmalade which I thought I'd use for Obes' recipe with exrta ginger and hurly here means getting a good blatter with a stick! My BIL hasn't a bar in his grate and his thumbs are knackered! He coaches the junior girls now!

If I do that cake again I shall reduce the cinnamon and maybe add a teaspoon of dry ginger.    You could also do it with ginger jam instead of marmalade - same texture, different flavour tho.
