That is why the old whisky bottle is useful. I think I bought it back from Mull, many years ago. It has a narrow neck, but a square base about 3 inch square, and holds about a pint of water. Nice and sturdy.
The conical jugs I have are good for tall things like gladioli, again because they have a low centre of gravity, so don't fall over at the slightest knock.

I have low squat vases.  The problem is the wight of a 6" flower head not being balanced by a 3" stump of stalk.

Earlier on in the summer. The sweet peas didn't last until the end of August.
Today. The giant dahlias only have a short stem unless I sacrifice all the next buds, So a lot get balanced on rose bowls or jam jars.

Lovely dahlias FB.  I have the same problem with short stems tho some are now doing 6" instead of 3".

These are the ones I plant to keep and increase, if I can, but there's an ordinary white one that hasn't done very well at all.

Not off hand but I can have a look tomorrow and see if I have the labels from the packets - just stuff I picked up in a GC.

Sorry FB.  Looks like the under gardener has "tidied" up all my labels.   I have taken cuttings from side shoots and will take more in spring if they don't work and then, maybe, I can post you a baby.  Fingers crossed.

    Something a bit different...

Did a woodland walk with my neice, and we collected these: sweet chestnuts, leaves and lichen.

    A Dahlia carpet.
Candy pink and cotton white out of a twin pack from Morrisons. Kiev which starts white then gets pink tinges on the ends, cafe au lait, Kelvin floodlight (yellow), labyrinth in the copper jug. The orange one are Noordwiks glorie.  I am still getting gladioli from the serial planting.

That hedgehog on the top doesn't look too lively AuntyR.... :D
    I really like that - it's totally different  :)
A carpet indeed fidget. They look in brilliant nick too.
Lovely pix on here again. I haven't  been very good at doing jamjars this year, but I've enjoyed seeing everyone else's.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
